I listen to this podcast called Real Life Ghost Stories and here are the hosts, one English, one Irish, rating American snacks, both savory and sweet.

We call this stuff 'kets' where I'm from, which can be confusing to outsiders.
As a bairn I liked a fruit pastel, dolly mix, wine gum, opal fruit, milk/cola bottles, shit that I haven't touched since. I still enjoy liquorice all-sorts and pomfret cakes.
I've always associated boiled sweets with the elderly, especially werthers.

Werthers Originals are boiled, aren't they? Tbh you rarely see kids eating hard toffee either.

The term "Original" was fairly new (90s), but the company and brand of confection has been around for 118 years

Well fuck 'em, Uncle Joe's mint balls are all that matter round here. No paedo-pandering like Werthers, or actual nice sweets.

What was always odd about the Werther's campaign was that toffee, hard or soft, is just about the most dangerous foodstuff for denture wearers...
