what about his club foot? I guess he manned up! Didn't stop him from living a full and reckless life, dead by 36. any thoughts on his "relationship" with his half-sister, gav? i guess that's the norm round your parts ...

Only one of these fuckers swam the Hellespont (as far as we can know, sure), and it wasn't Al "I know magic, me" Crowley. Plus, Byron tried to help free Greece from Ottoman rule, so that settles that.

Studied Byron for my English Lit 'A' level and he bored me senseless.
The other fella I don't know about.
Score draw.

Crowley was an extraordinary guy in many ways - mountaineer, chess player as well as occultist and had a fascinating life. However he wasn't a good guy and a lot of people around him had ruined lives. Byron is a great romantic archetype (all that "mad, bad, dangerous to know" stuff) and so I'm going for him.

both bisexual too.
i've always found it worrying that several members of bcb and preludin openly subscribe to his teachings.
i remember carlsson including a cake of light with a CD-R he sent me of graham bond's 'love is the law' and 'holy magick'.
during the PROG wars i was visited by a preternatural entity named Lam, who i'm sure carlsson evoked during one of his rites.

Can you remember why they fell out?
I always felt that PB was a bit jealous of Carlson's success, in the same way Peter Cook got a bit jealous of Dudley Moore.

Byron gave my village the thumbs up in Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage so he gets my vote. Crowley also spent some time here after he faked his own suicide in a stunt jointly organized with modernist poet Fernando Pessoa. Then he holed up in a house in Sintra for a few weeks as the world digested the news of his death, before going to Berlin where he staged his equally bogus resurrection. He was an interesting person, no doubt about it - half shaman and half showman. If Crowley instead of Kenneth Anger had been diabolic advisor to the Rolling Stones… there would truly have been fireworks.

I find Osman Spare more interesting than Crowley. Did he a actually *create* much of lasting worth?
Byron's wife was from County Durham and they married at Seaham Hall, a couple of miles down the coast from here. The marriage lasted a year, I think.
