I suspect it's the kind of record G put on as a YOUNG MAN when he was trying to seduce women back at his gaff. A slinky move onto the couch, wine glass in hand, "alwight darling...".
Like a Poundland Alfie.

It's a fairly recent discovery, probably 2012 or something like that. Yeah it's pretty mellow and that seems to be a black mark against it for some ( but I do appreciate DF taking the time to listen to it), but what can I say..I like mellow music! It probably needs a few listens for the songwriting to really come through, something like "Moses" builds with a subtle power. I'd also argue that there's an undercurrent of angst there which means there's more to it than simply pleasant background music, but I can see if you're listening to it for the first time that's the aspect that's most readily apparent.

I quite enjoy music that can play in the background as I do my dishes or even type on here. It serves as a slow introduction to the music and I then start to listen closer to the other features like the instruments, the time signatures, the delivery of the vocal.
Music doesn't always have to be confrontational.

The protests alone regarding the cover nowadays would wipe the self satisfied smile off his face. Doubt it. There are far more naked women on album covers now than ever before. Really? Any specifics? There are probably far more artists naked on their own covers, but not gratuitous Ohio Players shots or one like here that show a power differential. Guaranteed if this cover came out today from a major artist, end of career.

But it didn't come out today. That's the point.

Guaranteed if this cover came out today from a major artist, end of career. A lot of modern artists now use graphics instead of photos probably because it's cheaper and easier since the music industry is pretty much devoid of money unless you are some Cowell puppet or a legacy artist.... I am actually not sure if there are any male solo artists or all male bands who are culturally relevant enough to be cancelled in the first place if they were to have a controversial album "sleeve". Also are album sleeves as important in the era of streaming, Spotify and YouTube videos, it's just as a big as part of the promo in my opinion....I think an artists Twitter handle would be more relevant than any of their album artwork/cover. Having said all this I imagine it would the pretty creepy if The Stones next album was them with a bunch of naked women....I feel sick. One recent album that comes to mind is "Push the Sky Away" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

This is the first time I've heard the album. I like it a lot. I'd buy a copy on CD, but it doesn't look like there is a legitimate issue. Discogs says there was a 1997 French issue but doesn't have any copies for sale. Nice choice, anyway -- I was hoping for things like this in this experiment.

Yeah it's pretty mellow and that seems to be a black mark against it for some ( but I do appreciate DF taking the time to listen to it), but what can I say..I like mellow music! I knew the comments about it being very low-key and unassuming would be latched upon, it's not necessarily a black mark, but it's not something easy to rationalise. I mean, I like a lot of ambient, a lot of very low-key folk; something like The Blithe Sons are practically silent, and I'm not sure I'd discuss that kind of thing here either (and not just because you'd all hate it). Music's an immediate art form, isn't it, it has the chance to impact unlike any other art form. Quiet, relaxed music can be at a disadvantage in that respect when you try and form an opinion on one or two listens. I think in this case, it's more that the style & production/arrangements aren't to my taste, and the vocals become a kind of weak lemon soup which cover everything. But really, I could listen to it again without complaint.

This one is being played again.
The news (as ever) has been pretty lousy today lots of images the gentleness of the opening track along and the slight quiver in his voice is actually like an aural balm. The 2nd track is funky but even that seems rather languid.....defintely my preferred type of person.....I can tell you something this definitely comes from another time.....

I do like this, and have liked past tracks that G has posted from it - I'm guessing in cups?
I mean, some of it's a bit 'light jazz', but G has always been more tolerant of that stuff than I (than most of us, I suspect).
It's...a grower.
As for the cover, yeah - I don't think there's much point in applying 2021 standards to it, and G's probably right about its original intent. Getting the 'squares' to 'freak out' was still a thing in those heady days. Much harder to do in the post-GG Allin world.

I feel thankful that I learned the complex beauties of the female form from Sandy Nelson album covers at the Stop N' Go.

He might be one of the few "lost"artists left, ripe for rediscovery/re-evaluation and a proper reissue programme. I'm certainly no expert, I still need to hear his follow up album to N & R. You might also like Metronomie, which is more out there musically ( It goes in more of a Zappaesque jazz rock direction).
