From the end of the 70s to the beginning of the 90s, death of disco, rise of hip hop and electro funk, thrash, change out of glam metal for hair metal, change out of Eddie Rabbit pop country for Randy Travis new country, from Prince to the Paisley Underground, to hardcore to cowpunk, the rise of gogo to garage to the ubiquitous chorus sound in NYC jazz, the whole mess is out there, enjoy! All contributions welcome.

It was interesting to see some of these transitions - You had the Dils and the Nuns dissolve and Alejandro Escovedo join the Kinman brothers in Rank and File. And then you had groups like the Beat Farmers - you always had the Blasters and Los Lobos who took advantage of this swing.

There was that whole US straight ahead scene that was country, rock, punk, rootsy and soulful: Rank and File, Del Lords, Lone Justice, Blasters, Los Lobos, Foster and Lloyd, Jason and the Scorchers, etc., Steve Earle - Copperhead Road

Terribly unfashionable now of course, and Anthrax's reputation seems to have sunk the most out of the big 4. However, I'll never forget the huge rush of excitement as a teenager queueing up outside Birmingham NEC for my first ever gig, just getting through the doors as THAT chord rang out, along with "What is this... "

" Yes, they were unique in actually getting a hiphop/hard rock fusion for a brief moment and being the most punky of the Four, but just could not keep it together. The magic came and went with Belladonna to the point of not caring anymore as Scott kept things going to the point of losing what made them unique.

As an 80s nostalgia board we can have many threads, the other thread is specific to A sides of singles and has a vibrant discussion going on. This is for the stuff that doesn't fit that discussion. All are welcome.

Why wouldn't White Lines fit that discussion?

As you well know it isn't about White Lines specifically.

I don't understand, but never mind. Everything could have gone in that thread rather than thinking US genres needed their own thread.

Peter Garret (sp?) cracks me up. He's so INTENSE.
I was marveling at the bass playing in this one tonight and realizing that I've never really paid attention to it before.

It's 'the other 80s', G. He's making some sort of point.

I think all three of you numpties have made my point for me. I didn't see any point in posting in a thread where you three "negative nah knews" would get up in arms about something you didn't like or know. Then I'd get accused of messing up your thread, this works better. It is bizarre to be arguing over too many music threads.
Singles weren't special in the US, we rarely got picture sleeves, let alone elaborate double 45 sets. The country is too big for distribution, there was more money to be made keeping LPs reasonable .99 to 6.99 (2LP) during the 70s, up to 9.99(2Lp) during the 80s.
For me, hitting a jukebox consolidator for soul 45s and buying the odd hardcore single were pretty much my 45 experience.
