It appears I'm the only person to pick "love plus one" at this juncture. so, I feel it's my duty to bray like a donkey.. AYE EYE YI YI YI YAH!!!I hope that cheery musical phrase will be lodged in all your skulls for the rest of the week. Oh, I very nearly voted for it. A lot of what I can muster a nostalgic 80s smile for now is - in essence - the musical equivalent of joy buzzers and pop up books.

Nobody's Fool was the best Haircuts single.

I like it but we always end up descending into the subjective rather than the objective, if you know what I mean when we do these things. It's all I've got. I'm sure there's some very well reasoned cultural metric by which "Relax" is the most important creative work in the past 10,000 years, but...then you're in the territory of people who feel as if they are being forced to like the Beatles.

That would be very silly. It's obviously Two Tribes.

I know Ghost Town is a great song and all, era defining, capturing the mood of yada yada yada... but wouldn't you rather listen to their ska stuff?

yup. i nearly coughed up a lung laughing the first time I heard "enjoy yourself"
it wasn't long before I stopped laughing. resigning yourself to your eventual demise is a luxury for the young. I still love it, mind you. I didn't know it was poignant until I got OLD.

Oh, I dunno - "Ghost Town" sounds to me like the very organic and inevitable follow-up to More Specials (with all of its space age cut rate bachelor pad muzak), things like "Stereotype" and "Man at C&A" (and maybe even the reprise of "Enjoy Yourself") already have one foot in that sort of "psychedelic depressive funhouse". Granted, it ALL "sounds like ska" to my wife.

I'd rather listen to most other songs from the list. I like it well enough but it's an odd thing and its clever/schizo nature puts it at a distance. It doesn't move me one bit. And yeah, 'Do Nothing' or 'Too Much Too Young' are much more fun. A bit of a surprise it's winning this poll, with the likes of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' there. But these things are often unpredictable - I thought 'Birthday' would have done much better, for one. And for OJ's 'big hit' - one of the most charming tunes there - not to score at ALL....you're all mad! mad, I say!

Of course 'Ay Ay Ay Ay Moosey' would have wiped the floor with all of them

I think the problem with Love Will Tear Us Apart is that it's not really top tier Joy Division, and what New Order followed it up with was superior, too. Birthday, I don't rate, and Bjork definitely had much higher highs in her solo career.

I still get a fucking rush just playing 'Buffalo Stance' in my head, man. 24-carat solid gold.

That some tracks are getting a bit overlooked is a tribute to how strong the list is overall I think.
