Since we're discussing driving, I got my school bus driving license while I was working at a YMCA day camp during the summer and they needed a driver to drive to camp each day and field trips. I used to drive a big yellow school bus, manual transmission, up a winding mountain road each morning to camp and back down at the end of the day, a segment of road pictured below. When the kids were screaming, I used to tell them I was going to drive them to Chowchilla. The other day camp counselors got the joke and laughed.

It's a Chinese speciality in the "BAY" area , very hush, hush. It's not legal. I cannot say more.

The 1976 Chowchilla kidnapping was the abduction of a school bus driver and 26 children, ages 5 to 14, in Chowchilla, California, on July 15 1976. The kidnappers held their captives in a box truck buried in a quarry in Livermore, California, intending to demand a ransom for their return.

sloopjohnc, can you account for your whereabouts on July 15, 1976? A wild guess - underneath the bleachers, getting high. Also, not coincidentally, my likely whereabouts. Different bleachers, though.

sloopjohnc, can you account for your whereabouts on July 15, 1976? The guys who kidnapped the bus had gone to a high school in my hometown and grew up in a town next to mine. They were all from very wealthy families from a town called Woodside. Shirley Temple, Joan Baez Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, and Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband, David Kelley, all lived or live in Woodside. There's new Bay Area money and old Bay Area money. Woodside is old Bay Area money or aspires to be.
