Personal: 1. How's it been for you? It's been fine, mostly. Apart from feeling older and this persistent fucking virus business - you know, the stuff that everybody has to contend with. Nobody REALLY close to me died this year. That's a blessing, I suppose 2. Cultural highlight? Travelling around Italy in November - the art, the food, the architecture. I like to think of it as a TRIAL RUN - I'll do it better next time 3. Favourite new film? I think the only film I've seen that I really enjoyed AND that came out this year was The French Dispatch. Does Get Back count? Oh, and the VU documentary. All absolutely wonderful. Spencer was pretty good too I suppose. Oh, and that film set in Bradford with those two older lovers
I really enjoyed seeing a couple of LONG old films in 2021 - Satantango (most of it, anyway) and Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. They were impressive, serious head-fucking things, highly recommended if you haven't seen 'em
There have been so many others4. Favourite new record? (unlikely round here) I got nothin'5. Favourite book? Nothing. Although my sis got me the McCartney lyrics books for Xmas! that's a handsome thing6. Favourite meal? Ah, I dunno. No Michelin, if that's what you're angling for Any of the pizzas I had in Italy. And there'll be a decent CHINESE in Glasgow over the next few days FO SHO7. What have you learned? Just reminders really - life is short, keep on moving, keep yer eyes open, be kind, that kind of thing8. What did you accomplish that satisfied you? Actually just making it abroad again was a major achievement. Travel is really important to me and I was worried I wasn't going to make it again. And if you want something specific - sitting on the train going from Bucharest to Brasov. It may sound odd but as I found my seat in the compartment with my coffee and slice of cake and it pulled out of Gara de Nord I probably felt happier than at any other time this year9. Hero of the year Not a hero exactly but Gideon Coe puts together consistently excellent evening shows for 6 Music and I've discovered shitloads through him this year after wondering if I'd ever get excited by music again. He's a good sort, too10. Cunt of the year Putin or Xi JinpingPreludin: 1. Thread of the year I don't think there have BEEN any threads, have there? 2. Poster of the year (apart from me obv) you for music, Snee for other stuff3. Funniest post something by Markus, for sure. Or maybe Jimmy. I'm sorry to say it but some of the more 'heated' exchanges have given me a chuckle (when I'm not on the receiving end, of course)4. Cunt of the year (apart from me obv) I shall remain silent on this one.

Personal:
1. How's it been for you?
better than expected. lots of work. still not great though.
2. Cultural highlight?
i enjoyed the fallas festival here for the first time in ages. it was nice not to have too many tourists and just to see the local community enjoying it.
3. Favourite new film?
get back.
4. Favourite new record? (unlikely round here)
cobra poems - daniel romano's outfit
5. Favourite book?
scorcha! skins, suedes and style from the streets 1967-1973 - paul anderson
6. Favourite meal?
i think the only proper meal i had out was with a couple of students in the summer. it wasn't up to much. eating out is overrated. i much prefer doing the cooking myself.
7. What have you learned?
i learnt to skip and got proficient enough to do some of the boxer moves but i think it was the main cause of my plantar fasciitis. i started to learn valencian but got bored.
8. What did you accomplish that satisfied you?
just getting through the year in good health.
9. Hero of the year
my mum, i suppose. she is a constant source of inspiration.
10. Cunt of the year
bojo.
Preludin:
1. Thread of the year
the bcb gossip thread as always.
2. Poster of the year (apart from me obv)
sloop. always good value
3. Funniest post
probably something by littlejimmy.
4. Cunt of the year (apart from me obv)
wobblie. i'm amazed he was allowed back.

All but killed off by the Daddy Do-Rights now, sadly. and actually there's nothing much even left to gossip ABOUT...i enjoyed the stick that yves took. i've been saying it for years that he is one of the worst posters over there, so it was nice to feel vindicated.

Googa: I have bought a new BOOGALOO CD and it is wonderful Yves: I don't know it thread endshis complete lack of tact in the big big train death thread was jaw-dropping. i'm amazed that dci rother didn't virtually knock his block off. wilson-baiting is always good value too. there's still some good stuff on that thread but G seems content on sucking the life out of it.

Personal: 1. How's it been for you? - Not too bad all things considered, staying Covid-free (so far), mom healthy if a bit emotionally erratic, starting to get back to doing lots of music, and a semi-decent amount of travelling. It's been a much more Trumpless year than any of the four previous, so that's already an improvement. 2. Cultural highlight? - It's all about playing music for me. I don't really pay much attention to what's going on culturally in general, though I do think it's been an amazing year for music docs. 3. Favourite new film? - Still waiting to see a few, so I don't want to say yet. But "The French Dispatch" and "Summer of Soul" were pretty great. 4. Favourite new record? (unlikely round here) - That Floating Points one with Pharoah Sanders really is pretty great. Heard it for the first time yesterday. Liking Moor Mother too though I'll probably end up preferring small doses rather than a whole album at a time. 5. Favourite book? - Glad you asked. A LOT of my friends wrote books this year. They're all pretty good, but there's only one that I can heartily recommend to anyone, that I'd love even if I didn't know the author (who's an ex-BCBer, in fact). It's flat-out brilliant, in fact: www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/55678467-always-crashing-in-the-same-car6. Favourite meal? - The last one we had at our local Indian place, probably. They closed this year, though they supposedly will reopen in '22 in a new location. 7. What have you learned? - That people will not be moved on their firmly-held opinions (or in some cases versions of reality), so better to pick your battles very carefully. 8. What did you accomplish that satisfied you? - Made a lot of music. 9. Hero of the year - My wife. 10. Cunt of the year - The answer will always be Trump. Preludin: 1. Thread of the year - The hit or shit ones, probably. Most any with a poll, 'cause then people (including me) actually respond. 2. Poster of the year (apart from me obv) - Charlie O. and Snee for keeping the faith without dishing the dirt too much. 3. Funniest post - Jimbo coming back and be welcomed with open arms by the very people that made fun of BCB (and me) for putting up with him as long as we did. 4. Cunt of the year (apart from me obv) - I will refrain from saying. There are two or three people here that often annoy the hell out of me, but in the grand scheme of things they're pretty unimportant in my life. I'm still the guy that likes everybody for the most part.

It was a rough year for me in many ways. I didn't see much, didn't do much, didn't live much to be honest. Coming here as much as possible helped in many ways, so thanks Preludin. There were some dark days, and still find myself thinking about these... things, but as always listening and chatting about music is like balm for my soul. Love you guys.
The most enjoyment i've gotten is with my girls at times during the year. My eldest graduated high school a few weeks ago and we've just learned that she got great final marks, top 10% in the state. She has been offered a spot in her first preference Uni course, a bachelors in international business. So proud of her, more than words can say. And my youngest did outstandingly well academically too, and i had a lot of fun taking her to her touch rugby games on the weekends. I never really wanted to have a son, but i do love going to sports so i'm glad one of my girls has a sporty streak. Again, i couldn't be more proud of her.

1. How's it been for you? A bit shit, especially the last few months. The dog nearly dying, my mum breaking her wrist, my wife crippling her shoulder. It's just a series of things which mean there's a lot of stress and no spare time, and although it's all a bit first world problems, it gets me down. On the plus side, we've all stayed healthy (if not uninjured), covid hasn't affected any of us severely if we've had it, and we've had a few UK breaks this year, which have all been great.
2. Cultural highlight? Euro 2020.
3. Favourite new film? Dunno if I've seen many new films at all. Only went to the cinema for Bond, which was pretty good.
4. Favourite new record? (unlikely round here) Best I've bought was Gazelle Twin/NYX's superb Deep England, translating Lizzie's chavved-up techno-pop into dark folk tunes. The release of the year is probably Space Afrika's Honest Labour though, feels like a real progression of Burial's narcoleptic urban hangover sound, this almost beatless dark and dreamlike tread through the dismal dank Manc streets.
5. Favourite book? My reading has really suffered this year, I've probably got through fewer books than any other year I can recall, I just seem permanently tired. I don't think I've read anything published this year, but the best thing I read all year was probably Simon Seabag Montefiore's biography of Stalin.
6. Favourite meal? I had a great pan-fired seabass and crab-crushed potatoes at the Cherry Tree in Blackrod on Monday. Peter Kay was sat on the next table, too. We even ordered garlic bread, but before he arrived, so all comic potential was lost.
7. What have you learned? Fuck all.
8. What did you accomplish that satisfied you? Fuck all.
9. Hero of the year Kier Starmer. He's just so dreamy, and a man of action and principle. Although other principles are equally valid and should also be considered via an independant report and all pros and cons weighted through due process.
10. Cunt of the year Boris, obvi-fucking-ously
Preludin:
1. Thread of the year Cotton
2. Poster of the year (apart from me obv) Tennis girl scratching her arse
3. Funniest post Not this one, obvi-fucking-ously
4. Cunt of the year (apart from me obv) All of you.

1. How's it been for you? Pretty awful, my dad getting cancer, my Nanna put in a home with worsening dementia and mental state, myself getting depression pretty heavily in the summer, relationships ending, shifting between low pay office work before finally finding something in did my masters in again. Hopefully let's crack on and I can start enjoying shit once more.
2. Cultural highlight? Sunderland's groundhog day existence in League One.
3. Favourite new film? Nah, none.
4. Favourite new record? My 'best of the year' choices have been pretty random for the past few years. I liked that Pharaoh Sanders thing and the new Biosphere album.
5. Favourite book? I really enjoyed A Strangeness in my Mind by Orhan Pamuk, the atmosphere and society of Istanbul as related through a poor boza seller and his family troubles.
6. Favourite meal? The last meal out I had was by the Quayside in Sept 2020, can I use that? It was nice.
7. What have you learned? That I need to leave this fucking town.
8. What did you accomplish that satisfied you? Well I've bought myself a keyboard to get back into playing piano. I don't think it's much of an accomplishment though.
9. Hero of the year Limmy for his Twitch output.
10. Cunt of the year Me.

Pretty awful, my dad getting cancer, my Nanna put in a home with worsening dementia and mental state, myself getting depression pretty heavily in the summer, relationships ending Oi! My post was full of self-pity, and now you're making me feel bad! I didn't know any of that, sorry to hear about everything that's going on there. You know, if you ever need to talk to some random tosser on the internet, you only need to give us a shout. I might not cheer you up much, but I can recommend some third-rate goth and don't mind if you vent.
