Worked for NHS since 25. First 10 years averaged 60-70hrs/week.
NHS pension is good. I’ll take a hit on it if I retire before State retirement age (67 for me). But I will retire at 60-61. Just done a weekend on call (Friday morning to Monday morning 72hours) and I can’t keep doing that-even if I didn’t get many calls.
Financially we will be ok. We’d cut our cloth accordingly if the money ran out. But it won’t. You need less as you get older.
The pension scheme seemed mad when I joined the NHS. And it was compulsory, thank goodness. I didn’t have a backup plan. Parents humble.

Just got my projected pension (at the minute) for when/if i retire at 65. A small lump sum and then only 6 grand a year. Maybe that's good, i have nothing to compare it to. Just doesn't seem like much, even if it's a projection.

I'm chucking a quarter of my salary into my pension on top of what I get as a teacher. It should hopefully be 'ok'.
I'm hoping personally that I go out at 75 with a heart attack so I don't endure the misery of alzheimers or dementia. It runs in my family.

Some massive breakthroughs in alzheimers and/or dementia. Might be around when you retire, and start playing the pub landlord's dad in his new show.
