Posting this on all three boards.
Remember when this used to be a regular thing? The JUotA's happened every year between '06 and '15. Now it's hard to get anything going unless someone is traveling and the put the word out there. And then it's just a couple people getting together.
I know we all have our lives, and there have always been people here that seem to prefer to keep to themselves, but I honestly think that's what I miss most about the 'good old days'. I think there's always been a certain amount of board drama - in fact if anything it's probably calmed down a bit! - but we don't seem to get together more than two or three at a time for the most part these days.
Does anyone else feel that loss as I do? Or do we like each other less? Or is it, as JC says, not wanting to shout to a large group of people discuss minute musical details?
Anyway, consider this also an invitation to an LA Jolly whenever more than two of us can make it.
We're also planning on being in the North and Edinburgh (and possibly elsewhere in Scotland, maybe Wales or Ireland as well) in Spring '23 (if we can swing it). Stay tuned. And let me know when you'll be in Southern California if you will.
Or just talk about your JU memories, for better or worse.

Never been on one, obviously, but I'd consider turning up to one somewhere/anywhere in Britain. Gets me out the house.

The Jolly Ups were a great idea… er… on the whole. I wish I’d attended some sooner on BCB as they really helped with being able to associate names and faces with board names and personas and I certainly felt the board seemed like a friendlier, more inclusive place after I’d met a few people.
Of course, they’re not for everyone and they can cause problems with people who don’t or can’t go, feeling like there’s a clique that they’re excluded from (I felt a bit like that before I’d been to one).
Everyone I’ve ever met has been really friendly and welcoming but then I do vet the list before I attend 😉
I’ve largely lost interest in posting but it’s nice to see and catch up people.

I’ve been meaning to start a thread on the BCB FB page. I brought up the idea of an L.A.J.U. a week or so ago and got positive responses from you, Matt, Willie and Todd. I’m sure we could drag a couple of the other regulars out.

Yeah, I'm looking at my upcoming schedule and trying to figure out a date that would work. Particularly now that there are three of us in the 805! (Though I'm guessing the Valley will end up being the compromise.)
Keepin' the dream alive!

On a separate note - we could go grab some lunch or get together and play records or guitars or something sometime. We’re living pretty close to one another.

With the Northern JU lot, we seemed to get to a point where it went beyond something related to BCB, and it just became a bunch of friends, which was nice. Obviously I also ended up married to someone I met on BCB, which again, was nice Although the wider friendship group has fragmented and some people have fallen out (and politics has had a lot to do with that) Cath and I are still very close to some people from there and we see some of them often.

That's too bad. Believe me, I think Trump saw the presidency as a branding opportunity and as a way to get easy gov't money and donations. The man and his family are immoral thieves. But that's what I think and as long as he or the GOP isn't brought up in a conversation, I'm not going to tell another grown ass man or woman what to think. I'm not going to convince him or her anyway. I have friends and family members who voted for Trump. There are lots of other things to talk about.

You think Trump broke up some friendships between some British folk?
