Can you talk about your taste in general? Is there a particular mood or style you go for? Do you like things that make you feel good? Bright, optimistic things? Or are you more a fan of what's in the margins - darker, stranger things? Or does that depend on the kind of art? Is older stuff generally more appealing to you? How far back can you go before it starts to look like boring old shit? Should there be a sense of mystery? or do you like to be able to relate to it? Do you try to find out about the artist? Does it piss you off when things aren't easy to understand? or do you like that? Does it help or hinder your appreciation if the artist is a 'good person'?

I don't have any taste - just like what I like. It can be made today or ancient. Of course it is good to know about the artist if possible. One of my favorite novels is 'Journey to the End of the Night'. Céline became a rather awful human being but it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the book.

Piccadilly Gardens - L.S. Lowry (1954)

Quite serene that one, doesn't feel like the normal mood of a Lowry. It doesn't seem like the area has changed that much, despite the trams and the concrete nature of Piccadilly Gardens now.

I think parts of this installation rival Michelangelo's David, but with a much bigger cock...

You think parts of that rival David? The fella on the left, certainly. I was just working the cock gag in there. Which can also be painful. I did like the installation though, really striking, but I'm not genuinely making a comparison between that and Micky's Davy.

We've had a handful of Lowry drawings and lithographs come through the auction house. I always enjoy spending time looking at them and exploring the details.
