Really enjoyed that Goons/Parkinson thing just now on BBC Four. Sellers always comes across well on those shows - no hint of the 'difficult' nature he was famous for. always thought it was because he was playing a role, after reading about his "other" side

I fucking love these shows. No idea if it's the same writer every season or not, but they're just so wonderfully written. This season so far is no different. I'm only two episodes in but can't wait to continue on. I had a chuckle to myself while watching it, in this age of diversity, it has a jewish person playing italian, english playing Irish, irish playing (probable) protestant, and many more.

I watched the Sylvia Plath documentary on BBC Four (again). It made me so sad. I suppose it's not unusual for people to say 'oh if only I'd been there to stop her' - you have these silly fantasies. But the way the suicide was described, a matter-of-fact retelling of the steps she took.....ah shit. And of course after seeing all the photos of her smiling so sweetly, it just adds to the shock.
I'd forgotten how ambitious she was, and also how mixed the reviews for The Bell Jar had been. It reminds me quite a bit of The Catcher In The Rye, which is why I was drawn to it in the first place, but I don't think that comparison is made very often.
Anyway I enjoyed hearing the stories from these really smart, likeable old women who'd known her. One was crying about the whole thing 50 years later.

Sad that the Brooklyn 99 show has ended. One of my favourite American comedies of all time. Huge fan of American Horror Story, latest season is really good, Asylum season 2 was my favourite. I just watch the odd show here and there that seems to be popular on Netflix and other platforms.

I really liked it too. I thought the main character was tremendous – she has this ungainly, foal-like elegance about her and I looked her up on wikipedia and it turns out she’s her make-believe mother’s real daughter! She cut quite a figure in her parka with fur-trimmed hood, anyway.
At one point it could have gone the way of Nomadland, but it tended to get glossier as it went on. Never to the point of selling its soul, though.

Finished Midnight Mass on Netflix. I felt the last couple of episodes fell into horror movie cliche and were a little disappointing. Would recommend it overall though, intelligent writing and some great performances ( particularly from Hamish Linklater..who must be a shoo in if they ever do a biopic of Nick Cave!).

I only saw the first one but considering the lead has come out of nowhere she's very good.
