In other news I really enjoyed the Katie Puckric docs on yacht rock. I have a soft spot for some of those sounds and I liked the genuine love she had for a lot of it. Worth a watch. Yeah, I really enjoyed both episodes. Some great music, and I liked Puckrik's presenting, which surprised me as she used to get on my nerves a bit back when she was on The Word. She's looking great these days too.

Yeah, she's in her late fifties but she looked terrific.
She does guest programmes on Radio 6 sometimes, I'll have to start listening to her shows.

oh the WHOLE BLOODY THING this is awful, just awful I love that this kind of music really annoys people. I've just been reading The Guardian comments and it's full of these Darkness Fish types spluttering angrily into their copy of "unknown Pleasures". Me and Gash had the same reaction when we did that yacht rock thread on BCB a few years back..Masked Man almost had a heart attack. I'm going to start a thread on Christopher Cross' "Sailing". I mean that record just reaches some kind of perfection of melodic escapism.

I don't object to it that much. I enjoyed some of the music. In fact I'd take quite a lot of it over Unknown Pleasures.
But, you know, we live in a world with so many varied cultural options, to fetishize THIS kind of thing seems to me just a bit daft.
And also (as you've just shown) there's often a bit of inverted snobbery. All that 'guilty pleasures' business. 'I'm digging deeper!'. Look - it's fine, enjoy it, just don't hold up some rather bland half-forgotten AOR hit from 1976 up as the unearthing of a valuable lost treasure.
And Katie Puckrick is just OKAY looking and OKAY as a presenter.

It's Skope's stock in trade - he unearths some ropey bunch of oiks from '67 playing a half-arsed forgettable ditty in their garage and yarks on as if it's the holy bloody grail.

i've been watching 'inside no.9' on iPlayer and really enjoying it. i found the episode '12 days of christine' quite disturbing. recommended for fans of 'the league of gentleman' and 70s brit horror.

I watched "Good Omens" & "Stranger Things 3" both had me fidgeting for the first couple episodes then hanging on every word by the third. this "long form TV" trend really does have a lot going for it.
