I had Thai today. Of course, I'm a rather boring food explorer so I ordered standard Pad Thai with chicken. It was pretty good.

This seems to be more about how many different (often regional) dishes are liked by someone rather than what's most-liked. Otherwise the US would never be anywhere near the top ten.
Thai is far too low. Mexican (though amazing at its best, like anything) is way too high. Other than that, I can see some logic to most of it.

We ate beautifully in Venice last month. Veneto cuisine is distinctly different from "Italian". It was mildly dispiriting to see hordes of people munching on what looked like terribly grim slices of Pizza around the city. However, we ate very well. The Venetians are brilliant at "Chichetti" - essentially little snacks - and one in particular was a grilled bit of chicory and speck in a little toasted bun. It was absolutely divine. My wife has been banging on about bitter leaves for years, but only now has my tongue and palate really adjusted to it and I can't get enough. Then there are variations on salted cod and others. You walk round the city, stop off at at a place like Al Merca, have a couple of snacks, drink a lovely glass of white and off you go to the next one. The perfect way to eat in the city IMO.

Just got back from Verona. Full of tourists munching Big Macs. I shuddered at their lack of adventurousness which to my mind is nothing more than culinary philistinism.
If only they'd let their eyes wander down the menu and alight at the wondrous 'fillet of fish'. Why does the Verona MacDonalds do this dish so magnificently? It's to do with generations of Veronians perfecting their craft and handing their knowledge on to the next generation. That's how you get their unique understanding of the delicate, but playful, interplay between the salty robust punch of the cod and the harmonising flirtation of the lettuce. Add just the right amount of mayo for a coquettish third note in the symphony and you are in the heavenly realms.

It's interesting that "TasteAtlas" has HQ in Croatia, which may account for both Romania and Croatia mystifyingly being in the Top 10.

I'm not sure how they get their rankings together, but I'd agree it's a bit suspicious. HOWEVER - ignore Romanian cuisine at your peril. I've been impressed with food I've had in Transylvania recently - heavy and meat-based but very tasty. Sarmale are at the top of the culinary tree there
