AccoRinRin, the singer, is my latest celebrity crush. I'm still unsure about their music, though. It's a bit too fiddly and proggy even for me but I like the track Jimmy posted.

I remember Otoboke Beaver generating a bit of fuss a couple of years back, they seemed pretty interesting then, but I never really followed up on it, I was a bit suspicious of gimmickry. That's not bad at all, though for a 100 second song, I did wonder if it was going to develop at all from the start, but I like the playful pop vocals towards the end. I reckon I might check more out this time.

I'll keep things modern day, bought this album at the weekend, and this track leaps out for me with the tremendous El-P production. Fearlessfreap picked some hip-hop for the canon, if I remember correctly, so he can have this one:

Fearlessfreap picked some hip-hop for the canon, if I remember correctly, so he can have this one: I've heard him, my son played him for me. I like it, particularly when I consider that there is only a tiny amount of contemporary rap I've heard that I like. I appreciate that some thought went into it, it's not LCD trap, or the always too precious youtube type rap song. |

Building off the above track, It made me think of this
I don't know where the hell this came from. He put out a conventional and decent album a few years earlier. This came out in 92, you are probably familiar with it, but if not, what sounded like this 30 years ago? It sounds more like 2012, but not in a bad way. I still can't make up my mind on this album 30 years later, but it sure wasn't safe.

I've never known what to make of that Divine Styler album, either. Is it avant-garde hip-hop or just largely not hip-hop at all, but some electronica thing? A weird, sprawling record, that one.

Remember hearing it described as The Residents meet Funkedalic at a Prince concert, which isn't far off for this sprawling album..Definitely fits into the "Proto-Abstract Hip Hop" label, a movement which would find full bloom in the 2000s..It's the sound of a guy searching for spirituality in the dark reaches and losing his mind in the process..Interesting stuff..
I'll post a track for somebody later..

Given the bands name I was surprised by a folk-tinged offering. I had placed them in my head as sounding like the yeah,yeahs or somesuch.
At its beginning, well, you think its a little smog like, bit of a dirge and ultimately going nowhere. It eventually though, does blossom.
What i like about it most is the carefully positioned sounds that arrive and leave but with the desired effect of adding to the original simple brushstrokes.
As with most selections posted on forums, via you tube , you need to really use tidal or quboz say and allow your speakers to open up what is often lost on earbuds. This track benefits greatly from a superior listening set up. The little soundscapes and extra vocal certainly bring a lot to the party. It needs to be heard fully, despite the apparent simplicity, when listening, as i first did via my phone.
I guess it may be too lethargic for some. It is a fine line between a dirge and making an emotional pull on the listener. I think they managed it pretty well. A quiet night were the air is still and this will suck you in. A fine choice, thank you.

I don't know why I like this, there is so much that would grate normally. It came up on Monday in my Spotify discovery list. I like the album it came from also.
Who would appreciate it though ? Flange or G probably.
However, this is for Johnny as he has plenty of time to play it twice before commenting on one of the U.K's could have beens.
