Not bad, Felix, not bad! Pretty good song. I like the guitar part. Good voice. I feel like the drummer is maybe overdoing the ghost notes - like HE thinks he's pushing the song along, but he's really just cluttering it up. The keyboardist, too, sometimes. I'm nitpicking. I can't help that. I do it with songs I really love, too. She's one of my discoveries of the year (thanks to the NPR's Tiny Desk, as is often the case these days). I absolutely love her guitar style and voice, and she's a pretty original songwriter too.

I absolutely love her guitar style and voice, and she's a pretty original songwriter too. She's a new artist I'm pretty excited about, though her singing is probably my least favorite thing about her. Really interesting songwriter, with a unique pov (started as a "Contemporary Christian" artist, though even within that she was unique in that she explored matters of faith rather than just promoting them; she has basically tried to expunge all copies of her debut from public record as she feels it doesn't represent her anymore, but it's really not that far away from her last one in tone or subject matter), and needless to say one hell of a guitarist. Her new one's great. Keeping an eye for the proverbial future developments. True to what Charlie says above, the last record's a bit session-player heavy, so if it goes in the direction of being even more personalized, she could actually be something special.

Yeah - I like it too. A lot more than I thought I would when I first saw the weedy looking guy singing a kind of Dead song. But the song itself is great, and the band is just on the right side of the “jam” line. The slightly extended solo section actually completely justifies its length. Other than the fact that “Daddy Cool” has to be among the worst band names ever…completely dug that. Thanks Charlie! Here’s something random for Fonz… Up Above the Rock - Ray Bryant

The two guitarists had been playing together in various bands since 1964, and the rhythm section had been playing together since the late '50s, I think. There's some Spoonful/NRBQ grooviness happening here (lead guitarist Ross Hannaford was plainly a Zal Yanovsky disciple, to my ears), which I suppose is what made me think of you!

I like the Ray Bryant track. I was just playing an album of his the other day (Potpourri, from 1981). I need to dig little deeper on him.

I don't get it. That was fucking awful, Buddy Holly's less talented twin on guitar and Joplins ugly sister on tubs was all that kept me interested.

That’s for G. I think… he will like it. Nothing controversial. But just what I had on the stereo when I tapped into the thread. Great, yeah? Guessing it’s a Shorter tune. Can’t be bothered to check. Has anyone seen the doc yet on Prime?

I really enjoyed that a lot! And the band was totally unknown to me. I was surprised to learn that they were really big in Australia in the early seventies, but then none of their albums got an Eueopean release. And by 1976, their name was even more uncool so they were promptly forgotten.

Gone but never forgotten, Felix.
Daddy Cool, and in particular Ross Wilson, became iconic figures in the Aussie rock scene even though they had no international success and only a few important hits domestically. Their influence as players and writers though was significant through the 70s and 80s for many Aussie artists and bands.

From a four-year-old thread called "Last album you bought by a mega-popular artist": Just the other day I bought a CD by Daddy Cool, who were positively MASSIVE in Australia in the early '70s. Oh they're still fucking massive despite not having recorded anything for decades, it's just inserted itself into the fabric of society.
