Not for me, I know, but I dig the "white boys play Malian music" vibe. It lacks the pretense and masquerade of Goat, which somehow makes it a bit more enjoyable. I guess its rough edges help in that regard, too. I've heard some of their stuff with Getatchew Mekuria(sp?), but now I think I'll have to check more out.

The album that's from, Catch My Shoe is is superb, I saw 'em live supporting Melt-Banana where they played the whole album start to finish, one of the best gigs I've ever been to. The rest of their output is pretty patchy though, lots of clunky anarcho punk in their early days.

I've only got the 2CD comp, but I find it a struggle. I mean, I'm not the world's biggest connoisseur of anarcho punk anyway, so I'm happy to accept it might not be my bag.

A mate made me a mixtape years ago and there was something by The Ex on it, and I liked it, but I've looked through their whole discography, and...fucked if I recognise anything there.

Anyway. This is roughly in my cottage but it's all tension with no release. I was waiting for a moment when it all loosens up into some kind of dancey bit or something. But no. They're working hard to keep that hard riff going, hammering it, no respite.

I like these kinds of bands generally, and I've read things that compare them to The Fall or other bands I love. But this lot are a bit more monochromatic, I think. I do like the guitar tones, and the vocal. But the hairshirtness stops me from really getting into it completely. Maybe if I'd heard it when I was 17 I'd be a fan. I don't know.

It beats Debbie Gibson but it's not as good as Brit.

I'll have a think about the next song/victim in a wee while.

I dig the overall feel of it, but it does go on a bit with the soloing. I especially like the guitar motif that seems to have been lifted from The Who's 'A Quick One...". It's a (long) hit!

See, this is what happens when you legalise weed. You end up so stoned you actually think Tragically Hip (that name! Fellas you're killing me) might actually be alright.

Appalling on every level. They look about 50 as well. Are they Justin Trudeau's favourite band? Do they identify as men?

I think we should just nuke Canada at this point.
