Couldn't sleep last night so was watching this at 3 am. Terrible writing and direction. Whenever it could go in a good direction, it takes a wrong turn. I wish directors would figure out that starkly lit courtrooms are cliche by now.

Not the greatest unimaginative horror film ever, but the sequel is pretty good. Wish I'd watched that. Probably only notable by the fleeting appearance of the main character's dad, who serves no purpose in the film but to explain an absence of parents, as he buggers off on a work trip never to be seen again, straight after his daughter's oldest friend has apparently killed herself.

TMC were showing goofy '60s teen movies last night. That's presumably the same 'Bob' Pickett who made Monster Mash. Respect. I actually saw him once on an episode of Doctor Kildare in the early 1960s - somewhat disappointed he had no bolts in his neck

It was interesting to see that Mike Curb was in charge of the music. Besides being a music mogul, Curb was also California's lieutenant governer during Jerry Brown's first gubernatorial run.

...and the CA Supreme Court decided that Curb was de-facto Governor whenever Jerry Brown went out of town. Jerry Brown went out of town A LOT. www.mikecurb.com/about/politics.cfmI don't think I can bear to see what Bobby "Boris" Pickett really looks like. I need to hang on to the few dreams I've got left.

I haven't seen this since it came out. What an absolutely bizarre and hilarious film! Shelley Duval is incredible in it.

I'm going to watch this rather than have already. I like the first one, even though the ending seemed empty. But i'm looking forward to this, and because

I'm watching Filth, capital 'F'. Nearly being entirely ruined because of Jim Broadbent's god-fucking awful accent. Who the fuck hired him?

I watched Road To Morocco for the first time last night. Only other Road picture I've seen is Road To Utopia, which was quite a bit better I think.

I love when Dorothy sings to Bob & he gets so hot & bothered that he melts the snow bank he’s sitting on.

Snee - you've seen sooooooo many films!
I think you should do a 'one for the weekend' thing here, maybe. A recommendation every Friday?

I'm really out of date though. I watched movies on TV and went to the movies a lot but once I'd worked at a video store for a few years I did a thing you do when you work retail. When idiots ask for certain things you begin associating those things with idiots. it would be a long time before I'd do a little self reflection. Just because somebody goes to a video store 12 times and has a mental breakdown because they can't rent a fucking Sandra Bullock movie that they didn't manage to see in the theater doesn't necessarily make them an idiot. I actually had a woman insist that I be fired from my job because I could not describe to her, to her satisfation, exactly how CUTE the latest Sandra Bullock movie was. I actually like SB" quite a bit now but it took a long time to come around.
I love movies. I'll figure out a way to talk about them more. working in a video store cured me of ever wanting to recommend something to someone ever again. imagine somebody telling you how much a movie you enjoyed sucks over and over. well, I like hearing opinions but if I gave something to you instead of the latest Sandra Bullock movie - you'd really let me have it if it was "The Ruling Class" or something.
like most bad habits it's hard to break.

I love Jeff K.'s movie group on Facebook. it's not as good as a message board but the opinions expressed often go a little deeper than they usually do on social media. Social Media does a lot of things well but discussing the finer points of things doesn't really seem to be one of them. not yet anyway.
Anyway so Jeff was talking about Abel Ferrara who I guess I respect. when my daughter decided the "Twilight" books were for chumps I tried to instill in her a respect for work. I mean, that lady put her butt in the chair every day, you know? I respect that. so, I respect Ferrara but I find his movies (on the whole) macho & embarrassing. I certainly think there's a fun conversation to be had with who likes what and why. Facebook doesn't really seem suited to that BUT I will say I think it's getting better.
Anyway. I had happened to have seen "The Bad Lieutenant" since a friend was amped to see it. I thought Keitel was amazing as always but I can't really say I liked it very much. I could appreciate what they were trying to do - some people simply don't have the character for positions of authority. I get it. But you can tell somebody they shouldn't get drunk without watching them THROW UP all over the place, can't you? not in an Abel Ferrara movie!
So, anyway, my friend and seemingly every critic in America liked "The Bad Lieutenant" a lot better than I did. but then something really bad happened. they promoted it on video as an Action Movie. the art on the box had the forced perspective so the GUN looked as big as Keitel's head. Every goddam alpha-male that rented videos wanted that movie right fucking now for at least a MONTH. one person out of ten actually liked it because it's not really an action movie, is it?
anyway, I don't like recommending movies but it's always interesting to hear who needed to see Harvey Keitel's dinkus and who didn't.

I'm watching Filth, capital 'F'. Nearly being entirely ruined because of Jim Broadbent's god-fucking awful accent. Who the fuck hired him? That's a proper self-destructive whirlwind of a film, James Macavoy's performance is pretty damned incredible. Closest that a film will get to the feel of a Irvine Welsh novel. Not entirely sure whether that's a good thing though.
