I watched a much beloved and critically acclaimed film made before I was born. I found it pointless and barely looked up from the porn on my phone.

I prefer to think of them as flickers.

You didn't, but if you don't want to talk about it, I don't know why you'd make such a statement in the first place.

Putting THEIR in capital letters isn't an explanation, at least not one that makes sense to anyone else.

Great film, should've been in my top 50, probably. Nice understated poster, too.

Girlfriends
The main character was adorable. You have to think that the movie was written with her specifically in mind, because I don't think she's done much else.
Great film!

Last night I watched A Night In Casablanca, a post-peak Marx Brothers flick, for only the second or third time in my life. The plot is wafer-thin, and the script - just in terms of basic storytelling - has holes you could drive multiple caravans through, but I'd forgotten how many great gags are in it. Worth it. Might try At The Circus or Go West tonight.

Watched back to back zombie apocalypse films this weekend. First up was: Which is a French-Canadian flick. The film is set in rural Quebec, and at this point the apocalypse has already happened, and we follow a disparate bunch of survivors who eventually kind of come together in search of refuge. It's a strange, slow, beautifully filmed affair, violence is fairly low on the agenda, and when it occurs it's all the more brutal and shocking because of it. On the downside, it's definitely on the arty side, and as such feels no need to explain itself, but I'm not convinced there was ever any underlying meaning to some of the scenes, such as the zombies congregating religiously around mountains of stacked chairs. Looks good though. Second was Which is a Korean zombie flick. Much more of a standard cinema zombie romp, as a useless milennial is trapped in his apartment in a block of flats just as the apocalypse kicks off. However, a much more enterprising and attractive young woman is also trapped directly opposite. Can they together find a means of escape, refuge, true love, etc. Good fun.

Summer of Soul
I love looking at footage of old concerts and seeing people dance and experience joy. You look at all those faces in the crowd and you think "I hope he had a good life!"...."Damn she was cute!"...."nice fucking hat Sir!" and it's beautiful and moving. Like all festival films you are left wishing there was more of X and less of Y. There was too much gospel for my liking - Mahalia Jackson wailing away like a drunk Grandma at a wake was unpleasant - but there is some great footage here...Sly Stone being awesome, David Ruffin, Stevie and I really enjoyed the Cuban stuff too.
High point: David Ruffin doing My Girl and absolutely killing it. Low point: Nina Simone being a hateful racist old bag (crap music too)
