it's "Halloween Month" for movie night. My own Halloween tradition is The Mad Monster Party? - you know that one, Snee?

Lots of laughs. In fact, probably as many as I got from A Night At The Opera a couple of months ago. A joy to see some of the cameos - Barry Cryer as 'Dick Jaws' was beautiful. The whole 'Ron Decline' bit with Belushi. 'Arthur Sultan'! And suddenly you get George Harrison interviewing Michael Palin! with that wonderful sight gag. I just found this GH quote: The Rutles told the story so much better than the usual boring documentary. It is all so silly anyway, all the way through. Ringo’s story was funny, you know. We were talking about school once, and he said that he had been in hospital so much, that when he went back to school [they] said to him: ‘you never went to this school’ and he said: ‘yes, I did. I’ve just been in hospital a lot.’ Then, he said, a couple of years later they were saying proudly, ‘This was Ringo’s desk. The great man sat here.’ Madness!
The songs are mostly 'adapted' Beatles' tracks, right? 'Get Up And Go'? 'Ouch!'? They're just steals. I know, that was the intention. 'Cheese and Onions' is proper genius, tho' - manages to sound just like peak Lennon without stealing anything from him. Kind of affecting, too.

I went nuts for the music when it was new. I was wearing out copies of "Beast of the Bonzos" and "matching tie & handkerchief" so my opinion of Innes was already an enlarged kidney at the time.
I'm not quite as keen on the TV special as you but it is a lot of fun.

Other way 'round for me - really enjoy the TV special, can't stand most of the songs independent of that (as I've said at least a couple of times on BCB if not here, I always assumed their lameness was part of the joke).

"i must be in love" certainly! One of the better ones, but... there are so many songs from "that era" (let alone by The Beatles) that are better.
