That Sam & Dave clip is pretty weird to watch, I mean I know they disliked one another, but it's like watching two separate performances happening at the same time. It's a shame they couldn't even acknowledge each other on stage to give the audience something to latch onto. It's cool footage though, but the last minute or so of improv vocalizing seemed unnecessary to me.
I like the Bobby Hutcherson track just fine for what it is, but I think I'll go with...

just because it's closer to a lot of stuff I've been listening to these days. Tough contest, for sure.

A Well, I for one, don't know the original recording of this, so only have the live version to go on. I always thought Sam and Dave were crap, too; some adequate R&B, but the Righteous Brothers - hell, even the Everly Brothers - were more soulful duos. And of course live versions of almost anything are inferior to the record. No, this is dull, and fake, and dressed in silly clothes 3 / 10 B ooh, seven minutes of vibes-led jazz. Be still my beating bowels. One of those tracks that makes we want to wander out into the kitchen and see what I can get myself for lunch. It'll still be here, trilling away, when I get back. Yeah, put a vegan tofu tagine on to warm up, and it's still cool in here, but at least a saxophone has turned up, so I don't have to abstain 3.5 / 10

A. Because it's Sam. Because it's Dave. Because it's Sam & Dave.

A is fun and lively, with a nice rhythm section, but nothing we haven't heard a gazillion times before; Sam and Dave did better. B is a very absorbing groove; I've heard some of Hutcherson's Blue Note stuff but this seems a bit spacier. Nice. Charles Weetabix at the peak of his game.
