I really like both of these. A is right in the center of my hip hop wheelhouse; good funky samples with a strong melodic hook, with good lyrical flow on top. I need to play more early Outkast, i seem to reach for the 00's albums more often, to my loss clearly. And B has a great guitar sound and catchy clap-clap drums, very power pop driven with the chiming notes, very hooky. I just don't like the singer's voice much, which is a shame. Close call, but ...

A wins this by virtue of just being more interesting.

a why isn't that man wearing trousers? and why is he miming so badly? Is it a meta statement? He's really hard, he's not wearing a seatbelt, And smoking in a car, that's not healthy, ask Matt Wilson. No, these are bad boys. The (sampled?) girlie chorus is a less low point, but, exciting as all this may be to you youngsters, at 70 it's just dull drivel 3 / 10 b I like Stephin Merrit, despite the stupid spelling, and I even own a 6ths album, Hyacinths and Thistles (name of the band and the album chosen for maximum unpronounceability), but I wouldn't dream of entering him in a cup with this audience. Dean Wareham's vocals do a decent job of channeling Merrit, on what is unmistakeably one of his tunes and arrangements, but I can't help but feel that SM's baritone would have suited the song better. 5 / 10

A. I can see why Outkast stands out. B. is nice enough but reminds me too much of stuff I like better.

I know both of these and I want to thank B for reminding me of that song's existence: I think it's a really pretty thing, a nice arrangement from Merritt and a good example of Wareham's fey-but-warm vocals. But A is on another level here, a slinky groove and super flow. I like OutKast's earlier stuff a lot more than their more famous era.
