A has scored a bye here, not that it needed one.

I'm assuming B is a late list pick, but it's really not that bad. They can both sing, for sure, and it's fairly amiable as radio hits not trying for anything deeper go.
Still, A is a great pick from a great artist's great album. Unless it were spectacularly obvious, I'm unlikely to vote against Beefheart in most circumstances, let alone this one.

This is the kind of Beefheart I can get behind, a great mix of folk rock and garage. And I love the slightly demented way in which it plays out. B isn't so bad, I'd have voted for it against Spahn Ranch.

'Easy Lover' is a really fine tune, always does me good.
But it's not 'Call On Me'

B is Uzi Lover by Fur-Q isn't it? I thought I recognised the tune.

Tricky. I like this era Beefheart a lot. But I love the harmonies on the duet.

A, though B is about the least offensive of Phil’s hits.

I don't understand the love for Safe As Milk, Beefheart was clearly a lot more interesting later on, this is just a fairly decent bluesy rock track. Still quite stodgy, but with enough going on in the background to make it acceptable. But it's a bit like having your pick of the day's football to watch, and choosing Fulham vs Huddersfield.
Be honest, you're more likely to find yourself singing "Easy Lover" in 5 minutes time, than you are "Call On Me". B. Just because it's more modern, and going to lose anyway.

I like A a lot, naturally, but i'm going B here. I'm far from a Phil fan, but i've always had a big soft spot for 'EL' which benefits massively from Bailey's vocal additions and the pure pop/rock hooks in the song. A big 80s chart hit i can get behind.
