The orange juice track is not as offensive as I thought it might be. I’d not heard the Wilson track before but it was everything I expected when I saw the title. A standard soul cover which doesn’t hit the highs of the original but it is more up my street.

I always want to like Orange Juice more than I actually do. But that affected deep croon, and the fumbling half-arsed jangling...it doesn't really amount to much, most of the time.
B is just amazing, a real treat.

B makes a more pleasant sound to my ears, but A is a much better pick. I'm hit and miss with OJ, and maybe it's unfair of me to assume it's the more sincere of the two, but as skope says, I knew exactly what B was going to sound like before I heard it. Maybe if I'd been wrong...or if the singing performance were a bit more undeniable. Something, anyway...

I love the fresh exuberance of the Orange Juice track. The bass is especially wonderful driving the song along in its hectic excitement. 'I will not rock n' roll for you' was a statement of intent in those days from a band who really brought something different to the table. B is fine - its a tough production and strong vocal. However the arrangement is pretty standard and I've never been a great lover of the song itself. The more exciting track here is A

Again, not too hot on either. A is a bit of an aimless trifle but it offers more than B.

A substandard match IMO. A is just another OJ tune with nothing that makes it stand above another dozen tracks from then, and I've never been thrilled by their offer. B is another lazy soul reading of a rock tune. Just because that riff was one of the first things I learned on guitar

I can imagine B with some guitars on it, maybe just a bit rockier, with a guitar solo. Now that'd be worth listening to.
I'll spank Spanky

B, I’m pretty hit or miss with Postcard.

Orange Juice are coming across as very Monochrome Set influenced here, I don't know if it's the smug vocal, or the guitar styling, or a bit of both. It's got a nice bit of energy though, and that bubbling bassline is dominating things a bit for me, which is probably just as well
Spanky Wilson sounds like a South Park character name. It's not bad, it just sounds like it could be from The Blues Brothers set, introducing soul to the denim-clad beer-swilling masses. Says me sat here drinking Aldi IPA, in my jeans.

Good god, B by several hundred country, even continent miles.
It's sassy, punchy, soulful and an uplifting joy; absolutely cracking smoky vocals. Not that it needs to be, as A (notwithstanding the fact that EC is an intelligent, interesting and sound bloke) is limp, tepid, tuneless tripe.
