both of these tracks are well outside the preludin comfort zone. so kudos all round.
for me, B is a sublime slice of modern soul to be savoured.
the ASF track is a bit poor-man's cramps.

B, easily.
For awhile, I had a little fascination with bands like Alien Sex Fiend and Virgin Prunes, but psychological and medicinal help soon put me right.

Eh. B is a decent enough paint-by numbers modern blue eyes thing. Good enough to listen to as a pub band on a quiet night out but not really what I want from this cup.
Not that goth is my thing either, but just for the audacity of putting it up I'll go for it. A.

I actually listened to A, even tho' I hate what I've heard of ASF. Of course it stank to high heaven.
B rises slightly above mediocrity, which is all it needs to win this match

B is only pretty good, but A is so one-note that I can only stands so much. I'm surprised I made it to the end.

Who the fuck has picked Alien Sex Fiend? It's not me, honest, guv. Well, I love the band, but this isn't the best version or best sound quality it sounds all a bit damp and muffled. There's a live version where the guitar sounds like it'd cut through your spleen, and I do like the "Dead and Re-Buried" more than this on Acid Bath, where it properly like fits in thematically, man. Just lacks a bit of the chaos you expect from the band. Never going to win on this site, it has to be said, but it's likely getting my vote anyway.
B is very much not my thing. Not my thing at all. Ever. Christ.

ASF were best known for running a nightclub, the musical "career" (such as it was) was a bit of an after thought. To be fair there's a germ of a decent idea here ( to do with very harsh, militaristic beats) but they're too incompetent to do anything with it (least of all write a song). The kind of thing Killing Joke did much, much better.
You can tell B is modern because, for one thing, a vocalist this weak wouldn't have been let within 50 miles of a soul song back in the sixties. It wafts by pleasantly enough, I don't mind it as a bit of background music at all, but like a lot of retro neo-soul things today it feels oddly pointless.
B But it got lucky

I suppose picking A is some kind of statement. Ok, I got it.

B wouldn't play for me so I went looking for a new link. They'r a Brooklyn group associated with Daptone, and get my vote here. A nice summery soul feel, which can't really be said for A. Not that I don't like a touch of goth, but ASF is just not my thing.

B is boring, retro soul.. is this what Brooklyn has come to ?... Vote A, because Dead has more life to it...

Is it just me or can I hear Sigue Sigue Sputnik in A? Its pretty rubbish/tuneless albeit game, I suppose. I liked that Mayer Hawthorne album that B** got behind a decade or so ago and B reminds me of it. Its fine but, like the MH, pretty slavish in its retro-isms.

Is it just me or can I hear Sigue Sigue Sputnik in A? B Yeah, there's a definite similarity, probably partially to do just with the equipment, but also ASF kind of set a blueprint for dance/rock bands with little talent and a shambolic attitude.
