Christ pal, get some Strepsils, Mr Hill. 'A' isn't my thing but it's probably of no less worth regardless. When it comes to tallying up, John, is this a vote for A or an abstain? A.

Both are alright but both are the kind of picks that fool people. The Dr John song has a nice groove, bit hackneyed perhaps but better than you'd expect from someone his age. It's not great though but it sounds a hell of a lot better than you'd expect.
B has a shit tonne of energy but isn't much of a song. It gets by though.
I'll go with A without much enthusiasm.

I somewhat share Hatz's sentiments on A, plus I don't feel this modern sheen fits this kind of music whatsoever. B's cool.

A sounds like a re-tread of 'Babylon', while B sounds like Lemmy on helium.
I know which one is more fun.

a - Thought this was a bit of a swampy mess myself. For all his skills as a musician and sideman, I've never been convinced by Rebennack as a vocalist and I find his nodding out junkie voodoo schtick tiresome. I'd rather listen to Alien Sex Fiend. 4 / 10 b - First heard this on a Link Wray Swan CD comp, although Mr Hill's double-sided Hide and Go Seek (later memorably recorded by garage monsters The Sheep) has been a favourite since I bought the demo way back. It's basically a collision between rock and roll and gospel shouting. I can see the comparison with Little Richard - although I think Esquerita is more the model here - but the great glory of this for me is the stumbling, bludgeoning rocking out of the Raymen 6.5 / 10

First time I've looked at one of these matches and saw this. Did someone see my post about this song on the vocal performances thread? It's incredible. It gets my vote.

A is a comfortable winner here: I'm not sure I like the modern sheen on the production all that much but it's catchy and just about works. Sorry B, you can play as fast and shout as loud as you like but you're not hiding the fact that 3,600,000 other people have recorded this exact same song.
