A.
A choice between bile and sweetness. There's a naive charm in early Orange Juice, but I think I was more forgiving in my younger days and I'm grumpier now.

Two bands I occasionally like in small doses. But B is a superior OJ song, and A is the usual shouty bollocks.

I'm not voting for Orange Squash twice. A.

It's difficult for me to vote against the Fall, but B really is a classy OJ pick, one of a few I would throw off my coat and dance to. Real class, irresistible
But still, and not just because it's them but because it's a hell of a track (and it kicks off one of their finest LPs in style)

The Fall in their absolute pomp, and it sounds like the theme tune to Friends at the start. I can understand the appeal of the band in these early days, before Mark E Smith became a caricature, and the band sounded properly individual and vibrantly murky. This makes me think I should perhaps give this album another try, it's got a proper sense of chaos and attitude and northerness. I salute it.
This Orange Juice track has a lot of charm about it, too, the vocals are still kind of annoying, and there's a vague whiff of cheese around the tasteful bounce and delicate quieter bits. But I'm being harsh because its quite a lovely strangely up-beat slice of jangly post-punk.
A really good tie this one, but for now, I'm giving it to A

A is early Fall at their most ramshackle and it packs plenty of attitude. Good, but not quite top tier Fall for me ( I had a yen to hear "Psycho Mafia" instead while listening to it).
Orange Juice's use of a kind of amphetamine charged Chic guitar always gives their early singles such momentum. The combination of that and a lovely lilting melody makes this a winner. Because I think early OJ stand as a high water mark of British indie and because they're strangely under-regarded on here..

B is a song I do like even if I'm not so thrilled about OJ. A is The Fall being The Fall.
B, easily

2 bands I don’t like. I’ve tried to listen to The Fall, but I just don’t get it. Interesting bloke, and all that, but
OJ. I never liked his awkward-sounding voice, which I’m guessing is a large part of OJ’s charm.
Wildlings vs Umbers.
Umbers. The North remembers.
Translated. B

Shambolic chaos of early Fall or OJs lilting, jangly charms ?...Vote A by a narrow margin...

A is a pretty neat early Fall track but its blown away from one of the prime early OJ singles, which they later revived for their spruced up debut. Always a pop thrill.

Did I miss a memo about everyone choosing an OJ track? Anyway, good match. I like 'PDH' and love that album, but it's unfortunately come up against maybe my fave tune my the Scotch popsters. A lovely melding of pop and indie hooks.
