I just checked - the Birds and Eddie Holland beat the Rationals version all ends up. Still, I'm not voting against B regardless. As someone who considers Paul's Boutique a flawless record, perfect in conception and execution, this absolute blast of Curtis/Sly/Lalo and the frenetic rhymes remains a high. And, no, I didn't pick it.

Finally, a fight worth having. Abstain-a-vous.

I like 'em both, but find the Beastie's rhymes to be a bit too puerile right now.

I'm not fussed with either, to be honest. There's more of interest happening in B however.

That's a perfectly fine version of Leaving Here. Beasties still just remind me of their fans and that makes it hard to listen to objectively.

a unencumbered by knowledge of other recordings of this song or indeed this band, I hear a half-way decent lo-fi garage recording with plenty of dynamism, a warped way with a gonzo guitar solo, bumbling (in a good way) bass and a nodding acquaintance with the Bo Diddley rhythm. Don't expect much from a vocalist with a band like this, but he was all right, didn't overdo the soul tropes but banged in a bit of passion. 5 / 10 b avoided the Beasties at the time, just didn't buy into it. Liked some of their interviews, but they're pretty poor vocalists, really, little character, tone or timbre, no sense of poetry and flow, all Hector and no Berlioz (clever wording, cheers). There were some good noises in the record, but there's something about those voices... 4 / 10 A

A is about the seventeenth best version of that song I've heard. And the most famous ones are BCB staples. Why bother? B is creative and fun.

I've counted it twice and both times make it
A:12 B:10
So I've done the points in the table accordingly. It would be good if we could get another opinion though on the count.

actually, you're right G, it's 12-10. i wish voters would make their selections more clear. I had knuckleduster down as a B, hence the error. Apologies to all concerned.

i wish voters would make their selctions more clear. Yeah there was a few I had to read a few times to determine their vote. It would help Ray if people made sure their choice is clearly indicated.
