For me this has always been the grail.
Few things seem more tantalizing than "a deeply personal work, downbeat, abstract.." recorded by NY between On the Beach and Zuma. Every few months or so when he unearths yet another archival treasure, I keep thinking "That's all very nice, but why not Homegrown?"
I've assuredly built it up to be "his SMiLE", and...while nothing could live up to the expectations I've pinned to this record over the years...even if it's half as great as I'm imagining, it's gonna be a motherfucker.

One of the fans recently brought it to his attention that "Hey! We're all starting to die off here, get a move on!", and it looks like he's starting to consider a more accelerated pace for all of this archival unleashing.

I look forward to hearing Homegrown, but I don’t have anything like the high hopes for it that John has. Of course that means I’m unlikely to be seriously disappointed by it!
Speaking of disappointing archival releases, is it just me or is Tuscaloosa kinda lame? Time Fades Away is one of my “pet” NY records, and I’ve heard some kickass boots from that tour... why on earth did he pick THAT show for release?

Yeah, I played it when it came out and immediately forgot about it. Considering how many dates he recorded (all of them), that show seems really unremarkable ("Don't Be Denied" is especially half assed, and...if ever a song required excessive conviction). I wrote to the great man asking about the recordings the Gators made on the ranch before the TFA tour ("Lookout Joe" from TTN is one of them), specifically a number of the TFA songs ("Last Dance", etc.), and, while he seemed to misunderstand the question, he did venture that there were some pretty wild versions in the can (from places like Cleveland), which only further begs the question "Why Tuscaloosa?"

Does anyone here get MOJO or Q?
The record has been pushed back a further six weeks, but not before review copies were sent out.
If anyone can scan and post a review, merci, etc.

I gotta say, that does sound fantastic.
Interesting (to me) that he's got two members of Ronnie Hawkins' early-'60s Hawks in his backing band. (I wonder if Neil ever saw that band? I wouldn't think they'd've gotten to Winnipeg much, but - maybe.)
And I never knew about his Holland obsession!

I was underwhelmed the first time I played this song (a few days back), but...it's grown on me quite a bit.
