Yes, obviously it has all the things you could go and see but overall, the dirt, poverty, overcrowdedness and general chaos makes it a place to me only to visit for business. It is very interesting though, just not enough for me to ignore the negatives.

I was at a wedding reception once and having a conversation with a former co-worker and his bride who were also invited. They had just gone on their honeymoon, and had gone to India, and were telling me about it. My friend's wife was telling me how bad it was and not at all what she was expecting. She ended by saying, "There were just so many people." I responded, "You didn't know that before picking India?"

Thanks. I'm looking now. But I'm also interested in India, China, Brazil, Argentina, Thailand... Where to go in the world? What do you like doing when you're on vacation/holiday?

I've never been any deeper than T.J. I've seen pictures and I'm sure it's very beautiful when you get down to Mexico proper. I HATED going to T.J. and was always bad company so people stopped taking me with them.
the last time I went I almost got beat up because I didn't want to pay a couple of strapping young men to manhandle me and put black shoe polish on my white sneakers. each and every cab driver seemed to be openly offering to kidnap us. the main thing was the poverty. it was staggering. kids with ribs poking out and big tear filled eyes. they saw my whiteness and they saw an opportunity to eat. the guilt and the helplessness I felt was just overbearing. Jesus said the poor will be with us always. well, fuck that guy.

Lots of walking, galleries, museums, a fair bit of eating. Taking photos of everything! Cinemas. A bit of shopping too. Looking now at Havana. The flight prices and times from the UK are similar to Mexico City. Not so sure if there are any restrictions or complications.

Where in Mexico you thinking or going? I've been several times: Tulum and other parts of the Maya Riviera Barra de Navidad, Manzanillo and other areas on the west coast of Mexico Mexico City San Miguel de Allende
Most of Mexico is safe but you do need to be careful and stay away from remote areas unless you have a guide.
