Not somebody we seem to talk about that much (hey we don't talk at all much these days!). I've always found him a little bit hit and miss and prefer him when he's playing it "straight" and mining the folk/jazz/psych vibe of the early years. The Goodbye and Hello-Happy Sad-Blue Afternoon run is pretty sweet but I've never been wholly convinced by what follows. Parts of Starsailor sound a bit like when Mulligan and O'Hare make, er, experimental music.
Blue Afternoon is my favourite. It's got a lovely late summer evening by the riverbank vibe typified by something like this which just shimmers and sparkles beautifully.....
What are your favourites? What's your opinion of Starsailor?

I really really tried getting into him and bought Starsailor and Goodbye and Hello. They did nothing for me. I really only like Greetings from LA. They use to play a couple of the songs on FM radio when I was in high school and have liked them since them.

I've not heard too much to give a long comment, I've never been particularly sold on his voice. The acoustic take of Song to the Siren is utterly blissful though and I prefer it to the album version (and TMC's).

I love it all but prefer the jazzy folk period of Happy/Sad and Blue Afternoon and the later whiter funk period to the experimental period or early folk stuff. One of the greatest artists to come out of the US.
