I don't know how many of you have heard of The Sadies, but they've been plying their trade as hard-pickin' alt-country troubadors for a couple of decades now, based out of Toronto. I just got a message from a friend, and have just seen all over facebook that main man Dallas Good has passed away - I don't yet know from what. Dallas and I were roommates for several years in the 90's, first sharing a warehouse space in an old industrial part of the city that has long since been gentrified to hell, and then in an apartment over top of a bike shop on one of Toronto's main drags. I watched as he created the Sadies and worked his ass off to make them the relative successes they were. He was only ever about the music - it was all he cared about, but I suppose when your father and uncles are in a band together (The Good Brothers) for decades it's all you CAN know. I'm incredibly shocked and saddened by the news. RIP my friend.

Sorry to hear that, J. I hope there's some consolation in the fact he left a presence in the world, something to look back on and cherish.

My condolences, John - such a young man, too. Really shocking.

All over my Facebook feed as well. Usually when a musician dies the tributes are about how important an influence they were, or about shows they played together or the like. This reminds me of when Gil Ray (Game Theory/Loud Family) died - lots of musical tributes, but mostly personal reminiscences of a someone who seems pretty much universally liked.
Sympathies to you and all his friends. Sounds like you had a pretty deep personal connection.

He was a genuinely good guy, and incredible musician who by some shitty luck of the draw was born with a fucked up heart. Still, he was way too young.

Good band, sorry to hear you losing a friend and a guy who put so much work into his band becoming successful and dying so young.

Good band, sorry to hear you losing a friend and a guy who put so much work into his band becoming successful and dying so young. I can't remember if we ever actually watched their set - I think I may have seen part of one once - but apparently they played Hardly Strictly a number of times. The HSB Facebook page posted an obit.
