This is not a surprise. Death was bound to catch up with him. I remember Sensi loved him almost as much as Eddie Vedder.
Led a tough life and made some great music.

His records with Isobel Campbell - though she was the main artist and wrote the songs and produced - were some of my favorite of recent years. I'm catching up with his solo work and Screaming Trees - both 'not my kind of thing' but I'm finding some delights among them. Interesting writer and interview subject, too.
Not as big a fan as I am of Gary Brooker, but I do count myself as a fan.
Someone I went to High School with has played with him in recent years, so there's a sort of distant personal connection as well.
I'm not sure what's sadder - a guy who lived a good life without carrying too many demons around with him being felled by cancer (Brooker) or a guy who seemed like he'd finally started to get his shit together finely paying the price for mistreating himself for so long (Lanegan).
Anyway, RIP (though peace doesn't seem to be something he craved much in life).

Very sad news indeed. I'm a fan of both Screening Trees and solo.

I have the same feeling for Lanegan dying as I did when one of my musical heroes, Willy DeVille, died.
At some point, you think they cheated the odds in a Keith Richards kinda way, but there seems to be only one Keith Richards.

Only saw him once, with QOTSA , at the Showbox in Seattle, on the SFTD tour. When he came onstage the crowd went mental. It was one of the best concerts I’ve been to. I got his book, and it was next on the list to read. It’ll be a tough story to get through now, now the epilogue has been written…
