Fog matters to you & me but it can’t touch Sherlock Holes.Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed frequently in films & TV. Who do you like best?

robert stephens is a glaring omission given that 'the private life of sherlock holmes' is not only the best holmes film but also one of wilder's best.
overall though, it has to be brett.

Jezza Brett for me all the way. By contrast I've always found peter Cushing's performances rather dry and uninteresting. I didn't know about the Robert Stephens film, I'll have to catch up.

I’m a big Billy Wilder fan so maybe I’ve been unfair to “Private Lives...” I guess I expected too much. something didn’t click for me. I wasn’t crazy about “the 7 percent solution” either but I really liked Nichol Williamson’s take on Holmes. I don’t know WTF Guy Ritchie was thinking but I like Jude Law in those. I thought the first couple of Cumberbatch episodes were very clever. Before long updating it got all lopsided. Moriarity got to be like Dr. Evil or some shit.
I grew up with Basil chasing Nazi’s on Sunday’s on TV. I didn’t read any Doyle until high school, by the time I did it was hard to get the old boy out of the mind’s eye.

Jeremy Brett is THE glaring omission. He turned into a basket case after being 'in the role' for so long. nQuality TV
However, Rasil Bathbone is and always will be definitive for me.
