they say Jerry Lewis wanted to do it for years. aren't you glad he didn't? I think George Macdonald Fraser's "Flashman" books scream to be a mini-series. Richard Lester did a movie in the seventies with Malcolm McDowell who I thought was well cast. I think maybe a young Jude Law. he'd have to be young because it would take a long time to make even a few of them. what's great about them is that this guy, while a celebrated hero is actually a coward and a scoundrel. Fraser manages to insert him into many major events of his imagined lifetime. dynamite and hilarious stuff!

A book I read recently, Earthlings, by Sayaka Murata would, imho, make a pretty wild film.

I can't think of any movies that I have seen that were an improvement on the book. Maybe Brideshead Revisited is the exception. Because I saw the series first, I guess.
And that is the problem. You read a book and you have your imaginations what people look like and how they behave. Then a director comes along projecting his own imaginations.
Probably this works in two directions
