Head is in my personal Top 20, if not Top 10, and it isn't just because of The Monkees.
Thanks, Bob.

I met him! The theatre I worked at was showing “Black Widow” (which he directed). He got rattled at the cashier who sold him a Senior Citizen ticket because she thought he looked old enough to need one. He calmed down pretty easy. He seemed a little bummed when he left. The movie got a good reaction and was fairly well attended but it certainly wasn’t packing them in.
I’m a BIG fan. Fans of the great George Stevens will be familiar with hearing three of his key films singled out as his “American Trilogy”. These are “East of Eden, Shane & Giant. It is felt that the three films taken together not only stand alone as good films — they have a cumulative wallop. I feel the same way about Rafelson. I think “5 easy pieces”, “ King of Marvin gardens” & “stay hungry” do a very similar thing and desrve to one day be regarded in a similar way.

Anybody ever see “man trouble”? Same writer, star & director as “5 easy pieces” It’s hard to recommend but I like it quite a bit. I guess it was intended to be a small personal sort of film until they found out Nicholson expected a big payday. Too bad they didn’t go with somebody else because I think he sort of phones it in.
