the reviewer says he enjoyed his second viewing more since he was unburdened by an expectation that it be important social commentary. I got a kick out of Jordan Peele's Twitter response when someone called him America's Greatest Horror Director.

Anybody else see “Nope”? I watched it last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

People are getting VERY good at not letting spoilers out of the bag these days. I didn't see this one coming by a long shot. I like Jordan Peele's movies. He's obviously watched a lot of movies and not just horror movies.

I thought Get Out was pretty good up to a point but kinda lost it a bit towards the end and ended up a bit silly. Couldn't help but feel critics went overboard as they do a lot these days (see also Hereditary) due to the movies theme. Us didn't have much impact on me at all and thought it was definitely inferior to Get Out. I might watch this one if it comes on the telly but I certainly don't consider him Horrors hot new shit or whatever.
I'm not sure who is the hot new shit though. I was hoping the follow up to Raw - which I really liked - Titane would be better but the director deffo shows promise.

I liked "Us" a lot better than you. I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it but it certainly got under my skin. it freaked me out like a zombie movie. I usually avoid zombie movies but I'm glad I saw "Us". I'm yet to watch it again in one sitting. I find it pretty disturbing.
This one is more like "Twister" or something. I have a feeling he's just a movie or two away from straight up Oscar Bait. it might even be good. it's easy to see traces of both Spielberg and Spike Lee in what he's done so far. it's as loaded with "hey wait a minute" stuff as the other two but it's eager to entertain and he really gets good work from the actors.
