Why does there need to be an act?
If a hotel owner calls the cops because 'a black man is using my swimming pool', any intelligent person knows the right thing to do.
Are people so stupid that laws need to be made to prevent this?

There's also the thing of people being afraid to call the peelers in case they're wrong and get charged themselves.

Are people so stupid that laws need to be made to prevent this? Last week there were pictures in the paper of the woman who falsely accused Emmet Till of grabbing and threatening her in 1955. He was tortured, mutilated and lynched at 14 years old. She’s gone on to live her life free of any legal consequences for all of these years. That’s why a law might just be needed. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11060011/amp/Emmett-Tills-accuser-Carolyn-Bryant-Donham-seen-Kentucky-time-nearly-20-years.html

Are people so stupid that laws need to be made to prevent this? stupid? maybe not. racist? maybe. I mean, I know it's yesterday's news but there are a lot of reasons behind something like that. why was that Original Karen making that call? the implication was that the police would assume the man was the aggressor. why? Congress passed a Fairness in Policing Act with no Republican support and then it withered on the vine in the Senate. this bill would have made consequences for racial profiling. it's not going to happen. maybe it's not so far-fetched. maybe eventually we need to deal with WHY people make race specific police calls. maybe some of those people are making an assumption that the police will be biased? it could happen.

Are people so stupid that laws need to be made to prevent this? The bigger question for me is, is Preludin capable of having a balanced, rational discussion about it? I presume the usual suspects (which I guess now includes me) will be along shortly to answer that one... Anyway, the answer to 'are people that stupid' is usually 'yes.' But there is the further fact that such calls can be racially motivated without being obviously so, and I presume that's the logic behind the idea. Everyone know what DWB stands for? Seems to me that the racial motivation for calling in the first place compounds the crime - and yes, it is a crime - of using emergency services in a non-emergency situation. It might complicate things if there's a legitimate emergency situation that has a racial element to it - like is "there's an African American man..." simply an identification, or is it a stereotype? It could get complicated. As usual, the ultimate answer is probably "it depends." But I certainly don't have a knee-jerk reaction that it's a ridiculous idea. Though the name IS a bit humorous...

Where do you draw the line? 'A Chinese man looked in my window'?

The article is two years old! Who knows where this went. I know, but I discovered it and found it funny But in the two years time there has been plenty of evidence of cops being called on black people and reacting heavy handedly. We even had some articles regarding Eire and people of color dealing with racism.

It's already illegal to make up a false claim against someone for instance.
