Judging any group, no matter how small, without regard to the differences in individuals, is a pointless exercise, but talen as whole, I tend to prefer those I've met to men I've had to interact with.

There’s more bullshit said about women these days by both sexes than damn near anything else I can think of.

Shouldn't you be butchering the Italian language with your Scottish accent in a cafe somewhere, instead of being on here?

I've had platonic female friends (including married/otherwise-spoken-for ones) all my life, which would be much the poorer without them.

I've realised that I don't NEED to understand them. maybe I should have phrased this as a question: do you need to understand them? need? like air and water? I hope not. I raised my white flag on this battle a long time ago.

I have two platonic friendships but did fancy both of them when I was younger.
What about the notion that men see women through the lens of sexual desire first and foremost?
I mean, we make unconscious judgements on them when we see a female form. Then come differing lenses afterwards.

It's fun Ray to discuss things. It's not as if we're going to solve anything is it? Everyone has their say, offers an anecdote or two, the odd witticism, Davey comes in and vilifies myself or Dougie and the thread comes to an end.

I used to hear 'I'll never understand women' a lot when I was younger. I used to say it myself. It might have been said with a bit of annoyance or frustration sometimes. I tend to think women are capricious, you should expect it, and you're not owed an explanation. Maybe it's good that men don't understand women. I've never heard women say 'I'll never understand men' - they're better at accepting us. Probably because we're simple. I once heard something like 'stupid people hate what they can't understand' and I think it makes a lot of sense. It often comes to mind. It can go some way to explaining a lot of the incomprehensible behaviour in the world. If a man says they hate women then it probably just means they can't understand them - and they really want to!

J Peterson talks about high resolution thinking a lot and I think it's an interesting analogy.
My wife sees things in high resolution and it can be frustrating at times as well as really great. For example, we are on holiday right now and she researched the fuck out of the place, found loads of good restaurants, booked them as it would be busy etc, whereas I'd be thinking 'eh we will turn up and see what happens'. I'm thinking in low resolution for example in this instance.
I don't know if that thinking is the difference between men and women, but in close proximity to another person in a relationship it can be indicative of the chasm often in terms of thinking. Sometimes she gets infuriated at a lack of 'thinking' on my behalf but then I'm also extremely relaxed and don't get annoyed like she does.
In terms of understanding women, there is obviously no set thing to judge them by. My only observation really is that you have to accept differences and that give and take are fundamental to a successful relationship.
