I think men and women are more similar in certain aspects than people think. There's not the kinda passive aggressive relationship you see between couples like you see in sitcoms and films. Most couples work well together to get through the day and provide for their kids. In most films/TV shows/sitcoms it's either the woman has to do everything, plan everything, make sure everything is alright. While the man does what he's told, would like his feeling be known sometimes and is constantly trying to return to his 20's. It's a bit tiresome at this stage when you see it.

J Peterson talks about high resolution thinking a lot and I think it's an interesting analogy. My wife sees things in high resolution and it can be frustrating at times as well as really great. For example, we are on holiday right now and she researched the fuck out of the place, found loads of good restaurants, booked them as it would be busy etc, whereas I'd be thinking 'eh we will turn up and see what happens'. I'm thinking in low resolution for example in this instance. I don't know if that thinking is the difference between men and women, but in close proximity to another person in a relationship it can be indicative of the chasm often in terms of thinking. Sometimes she gets infuriated at a lack of 'thinking' on my behalf but then I'm also extremely relaxed and don't get annoyed like she does. In terms of understanding women, there is obviously no set thing to judge them by. My only observation really is that you have to accept differences and that give and take are fundamental to a successful relationship. The ex was like that and it rubbed off on me so I now organise holidays to the nth degree but never to quite the same extent. It used to piss her off of course that I was more lackadaisical about these things and create tension. Predictable stuff. Compromise is good but acceptance of these differences is healthy too and an understanding that some things just are.

It is a biological fact that they are, in general, not as good at baseball as men.
I have found the cliché that men desire sex possibly leading to companionship and women desire companionship possibly leading to sex; to be largely based in truth.
Some of my best friends are women, most of whom I have never had a sexual relationship with.
There are of course exceptions to every rule, but I also think, by-and-large, that women are not as aggressive - physically or emotionally - as men.

Women are, generally, much more selective about sexual partners because of the significant risk that sex carries for them.

One must consider that many so called "truths" about the differences between men and women were forged during times when economically, socially, culturally, strategically, etc., women were forced/or it was expedient for them to cede certain freedoms/abilities, thus we got "truths" about love, work, inclinations, etc., In the West, as patriarchy recedes/ is challenged, walls/restrictions may re-align to show new "truths", abilities, inclinations, etc.,

Consider that most long marriages of the past were based on the fact that most women didn't have a lot of economic choices to leave. So they stayed in situations many now would leave. Love wasn't greater then, options were lesser, so one stayed. Conditions influence/dictate behavior and desires.

The idea that a group of men sat round a table and said "yeah we will restrict women's lives" is such a load of bollocks.
In Ancient Greece the fact that most of the surviving plays were about women says a massive amount about the place in society they held, despite not having a vote or "power" etc.
It is just that in the post industrial society the value of the mother, caregiver and homemaker has been devalued beyond all recognition.

Says the man, whose wife makes more than he and supported him through school. When/where else was has that option been viable?

You're missing the point entirely.
I'm not denigrating those values and those achievements.
There is compelling evidence that pre-agricultural societies were matriarchal. However, none of them survived the transition into agriculture. Even the surviving stone age tech societies that exist today are all "patriarchal" .
This suggests that however imperfect patriarchal societies are, they "work" or at least have enough value to have superseded matriarchal ones. If matriarchal societies were successful, then given the wide diaspora of societies around the world, there would have been evidence of them surviving. Sadly this is not the case.
So when people talk about "the patriarchy" they seem to imagine some collective of men actively suppressing the ability of women to do things.
In most societies the role of women has been shaped by the simple fact that they were there to rear families. Across all societies that has been a life-consuming task that has inevitably led to the most important decisions being devolved to men, particularly where polygamy has been accepted. In only the last 70 years in the West, with the advent of truly revolutionary tech in the form of birth control, have things changed.

Did not know that you lived on a small dairy farm in the Cotswolds, cool. There is a bit of male savior-ism going on there. Or maybe are you the "handsome village squire"?

Give Lou my congratulations. It seems like just a few weeks ago I heard about the first one, although that might just be my memory unraveling.
