There’s an interview with QT in the latest issue of “Sight & Sound” I guess him and Lawrence Bender do a podcast on movies on videotape.
QT says that video tape is by far the best medium for watching films at home. He also says he doesn’t care for Francois Truffaut, calls him an amateur & compares him to Ed Wood!

Interesting list in spots, and there are some movies there that I might be slightly more interested in now that he's given it his nod of approval (but more for his reasoning than, you know, 'cause it's him).
Gotta say, though, what an ass-kissing opening! Few filmmakers love movies as much as Tarantino? What a steaming pile of horseshit! Truffaut, Welles, and Scorsese (for starters) would like to have a word.
Nice to see "Deep Red" on the list, though.

Aye fuck off with that notion. What a fucking arsehole.

He also says he doesn’t care for Francois Truffaut, calls him an amateur & compares him to Ed Wood! The day Tarantino makes a film half as good as The 400 Blows or Jules and Jim, I’ll care about his opinion of Truffaut.

the only one with merit (in his opinion) is "the Story of Adele H."

I almost mentioned that one as a film that QT had never gotten close to. I could have also mentioned The Soft Skin, Shoot the Piano Player, The Green Room, and/or Mississippi Mermaid. Don’t think he’s touched any of these.

I like the fact he digs genre pics and movies more pretentious people would overlook.
Audition is great and memorable horror. The Host is a b-movie premise but elevated with typical South Korean class. I’ve not seen Battle Royale in 20 years but I remember liking it and I guess it was ahead of its time.

Team America is still funny as shit.
But picking the new TopGun film (which I liked) is a bit like Bono picking 40 songs that changed his life and including an Adele song.

It's very American isn't it? Not much awareness or interest in non-Hollywood cinema.

well, he used to name check things like "city of fire" and bande apart all the time but I think he probably got tired of people accusing him of ripping those movies off.

Black Sabbath! I've been describing that movie to people staring at me blankly for YEARS. next time I bring it up, I guarantee you people will have heard of it. I don't know WHY QT is America's movie Daddy but he most certainly is.
I think the last of those three sequences in 'black sabbath" should be made into an OPERA. too bad ken russell is dead - he would have been into it.

Thought that was a very dishonest take - 'doesn't rate' hardly applies to half of them. The justification for putting Welles in there stinks. Same with Hitchcock, too.
