I don't think current young fans ghetto-ize/tribalize their listening as we in the past did. I know from vinyl sales that Yes, Genesis, and Crimson can command in the $8-12 range, Floyd can go from $15-30, while Tull and ELP are usually $5-8 (as is the Who currently).

I deleted my last post cause i realised it was rather mean spirited.
Seeing that post makes me sad.
Not a Phill Collins hater by any means (I like his production on Grace&Danger)....
Still think you'd be mad to pay to go to these reunion gigs.

Music wise....
This is my kind of prog.
I guess this is considered fusion however I once read that the Mahavishnu Orchestra were a prog band with real musicians but perhaps that's unfair.....

It's quite difficult to say why something like Mahavishnu works and ELP, say, don't. It's got something to do with purpose and discipline I think. You get the impression MO know what they're trying to achieve with a particular piece.

Mahavishnu are aiming for transcendence, something spiritual and pure, a shared musical high where soloing exists but in mature balance with a shared vision and collective ear that makes it part of a greater whole. They are really listening to each other and playing off that and it doesn't feel ego-driven like ELP. Plus they are better players and they are capable of really putting a monster groove down thanks to the rhythm section.

Yes. With prog it can be very cluttered sometimes, like a cacophony of competing noise that seems to bear little relation to each other.
It's just taste innit.

Here's the most encouraging thing I've heard about The King Crimson movie... ...Fripp doesn't think too much of it.
what a character!

Dreadful man.
Is he still doing those ridiculous videos with Toyah?
Did he grow any lips?
