The Smiths period up to Hatful of Hollow-ish I still think about quite a bit. Something like Jeane, This Night Has Opened My Eyes, Still Ill... I think Morrissey wrote his best stuff when he was struggling and he lost some of his real muse with success. Many of their bigger singles move me little now. There's a lot truth to this view I think. Morrissey went into self parody pretty quickly looking back.

true or false (generally speaking)? Pet Sounds beats Revolver
The Clash started off really well and steadily got worse
The Velvets beat The Doors
The Smiths were the UK's greatest 80s band
Bowie was best in the FIRST half of the 70s
70s Led Zep beats 70s Stones
True but it's close. I guess, but I don't like their early stuff much either ... True mainly because they knocked it on the head early. The Doors were great, but went a bit south as they went along. No. I'm not sure who it is, but it's not them. Yes, I'd agree. The so-called Berlin trilogy was great, but ultimately, Space Oddity/Man Who Sold/Hunky Dory/Ziggy are the best. Hard to say. LZ had better quality standards, not really any bad tracks, but they're so turgid you know. They only play one way. The Stones could be crappy (or in Jagger's case, embarrassing) but also could kind of float and be brilliant too.

Pet Sounds beats Revolver
F. Revolver highs are much higher than Pet Sounds, to an extent that more than compensate any references about living inside oddly painted submersible devices.
The Clash started off really well and steadily got worse
F, I rate London Calling above 1st.
The Velvets beat The Doors
Hmm tough one. I'd say F because in any case they are close in my estimation
The Smiths were the UK's greatest 80s band
F, I can't say which band was best, but it wasn't them. I mean UK's music scene couldn't be THAT bad, right?
Bowie was best in the FIRST half of the 70s
T, no real contest. He never bettered the TMWSTW - AS run, even if Low, Lodger and Scary Monsters are excellent albums.
70s Led Zep beats 70s Stones
T, 70-72 would be a draw, both bands releasing their best album in 71 but the Stones decline was much steeper.
