I saw that too. I never thought he was much good live, but the version of 'The Man Who Sold The World' there was great. Surely you'd have to see him live to make that judgement?

They did a cover of it on mtv unplugged I think it was after Cobain came out of his coma. Everyone was raving about it at the time. I thought it was meh. Just a silly joke, carry on.

Surely you'd have to see him live to make that judgement? I don't follow. It's pretty straightforward. I didn't think you'd ever seen him live?

I had - in 1990 - but I don't see what that has to do with watching a 'live at the BBC' performance.

Never paid much attention to the musicians while watching ashes to ashes live before. It's an intricate enough song when you break down the individual parts.

I knew a lot of people who thought he was shit. I went to Jefferson Davis high school (strange because it was in New York State) where anything less manly than Skynyrd was for homos. I liked Bowie, disco, punk and caught a lot of shit for it from the future insurrectionists that populated my school. I was fortunate enough to wrestle and play other sports, so there was no actual physical violence, but I certainly heard it. When he was on Saturday Night Live with Klaus Nomi, you'd think that they had shown gay bath house footage, the outrage was so intense the next Monday.
