Have you met someone who didn't like bowie. Not someone who says it because they want to be different, just someone who doesn't like his music or would go as far as to say "he's shit". They could also back it up in a reasonable (to their mind) way, again not saying it just to be different.

I'm sure lots of people don't like Bowie - I bet many of the metalheads in my highschool thought he was a 'faggot' and that anyone who listened to him was as well.
My sister thought I was weird for buying his albums. As far as she was concerned, her cassette copy of Changes1Bowie was more than anyone should ever need from the guy.

oh YEAH. my dad didn't like him because he looked like a poofter. actually that was pretty common back then. I had roomies who would cover their ears when he did his "Anthony Newley voice" a friend HATED him because he had different colored eyes what does that have to do with his music? nothing. we are the custodians of our own hate. you can hate something for any reason you like.
I did enjoy when people who said they hated him would sing along to "Changes" or something on the radio but I'd keep it to myself.

In the US, while most people know who he is and might be able to name a song of his, he's kind of a peripheral figure on the music landscape - I'm talking general public. They'd probably know Space Oddity or Changes, but that would be it.
If someone said they didn't like him, I could tick off at least six or seven songs and I bet someone would say, I like that one. The one most easily acceptable to mainstream rock fans would be "Jean Genie." With that as a door opener, you could go on from there.

when he died, everybody I know under 30 looked at me blankly until "Labyrinth" came up. then they were CRUSHED. I shrugged, happy that they felt something.

Like i wonder do the music reviewers of the day that might have said even his most successful or lauded album was shite, have changed their minds the bigger he got. Not through pressure but by just giving it another listen.

Was watching his BBC sessions last night. Just confirms that I like about 70 to 80 percent of his music. He's still amazing though.

I saw that too. I never thought he was much good live, but the version of 'The Man Who Sold The World' there was great.
