Oh, it's definitely a hit; it's just not one i particularly like much myself. Just too over-played
His derivativeness is worn like a cloak of honour; "normal" music fans simply appreciate it as 'old school' but music fans like us generally react with something ranging from mild annoyance all the way up to righteous fury.
Me, he doesn't bother me at all; when one of his singles comes up out and about i can generally appreciate just fine for a few minutes. It's not like he's Michael McDonald or something.

His 60s aping is more annoying on his first album. ("I build this garden for us" & "Let love rule" especially)

Voted shit, not that it's truly terrible. Just, as others have pointed out, not bringing anything new to the table. Artists like him are part of the problem, in that they're given acclaim for how well they duplicate a sound that's already been done. Call it Greta Van Fleet disease.
That said, "It Ain't Over Til It's Over" is nothing but a Curtis Mayfield impression, and yet I really like it. Go figure. That's probably his best song.
His version of "American Woman" is his worst.

I won't vote shit but only because I liked looking at the drummer. it was 60's style music for people who wouldn't have been caught dead listening to 60's music. now those people are old. serve's 'em right.
I still like looking at the drummer!

well, look at that video. if your audience had no idea about what the Jimi Hendrix Experience was then they'd base their opinion on it entirely on how cool it looks. I think you can extend this to LK's music too. it's like a comedian doing another comedian's jokes. it doesn't matter how good the jokes are if they are clearly somebody else's jokes.
I don't think Lenny Kravitz would let his rich behind anywhere NEAR my lowly cornflakes.

Yeah, if he said "Not necessarily Jimi...but LENNY." in the fade, it wouldn't be any more egregious.

The drummer is very cool. Carlos Santana's Mrs., if memory serves. He's an easy target, JC; good looks for a rock star, not original in any special way but retreads the old paths in popular and best-selling ways. In other words, he is anathema to most 'serious' music fans like us.
