They're being RIPPED OUT everywhere. It's getting to the stage where if I see one, it's kind of a surprise. I should take photos or something.
Will you miss them when they're all gone? What 'role' did they play in your life?

Tell me about it! I have to keep getting new 'burner phones' to do my drug deals!!
I'm used to it enough here now (it's been years since they've been anything more than an extremely rare sight) that now when I see one I get all nostalgic.
They were still fairly plentiful last time I was in the UK, and I didn't have a cell phone (at least not one that would work internationally) at the time, so I used them a lot to plan for meeting up. I imagine I won't think about it much next time I'm there, though. I assume (same as here) that even the poorest of the poor have cell phones now.

Wow. I guess I’ve drastically overrated the political power of Dr. Who fans.

Fond memories of calling the Operator to ask if Buzby was playing-out.

Whenever I have a craving for the essence of piss I seek them out.

They should keep them around, they're useful.

Yeah. Some remote villages are keeping them, they're essential for some people and for some services.
And old red boxes, of course - some are listed.

I don't know if it's a thing up your way, John, but in rural Devon and Somerset it's not unusual to see red boxes in rural locations repurposed as communal seed banks, libraries/book exchanges, village information boards, and so on.

In the Lakes, yeah. Definitely not in West Cumbria - they'd be trashed minutes after the books went in...

I could never understand why folks used them as a pissoir. Surely easier to piss almost anywhere else than a confined space with a light to illuminate your indiscretions
