It's a fairly minor Wire song (though apparently their debut single, I did not know that), so it will be trounced here. A shame really, because if I compare the output of the two acts in their prime, Wire are miles ahead of Mr Pop.

Footy. I like the falsetto backing vocals in the Wire track, but it's a nothing song. Never thought much of "Passenger" either.

Iggy has better production but there's really absolutely nothing going on melodically. I think I like everything else on the album more - apart from that one on side two whose name I can never remember

Time to interject I guess before I read more unjust dismissals of 'The Passenger'. It's one of Iggy's best of course, even if it has been somewhat overplayed over the years (or was, until 'Lust for Life' took over). It's a difficult track to classify, it has an almost folky swing and Iggy practically croons his way through it. I love its ragged romanticism (it's one of the great city songs), its strutting coolness. I like the Wire track too, quite straightforward for them, but it doesn't have the same mysterious depths as 'The Passenger'.

I cannot split them. The Wire song is a huge favourite ( that bass). I love the way song starts. It has thrilled me for years. I won't have a word said against it. Honestly. I wish it was twice as long.
I love the passenger, it has such a great feel and sound to it. I really don't see how you cannot love it. I don't understand Johnny's production comment, it is spot on. It feels European, don't know why. The la la La's are tremendous. Great album track.

I'd intended to vote for Wire because I'm over familiar with Passenger. I like the wire track - I've recently been sort of binging on "outdoor miner", "the 15th", things from their poppier side. I've always liked these sorts of tracks but have really been responding to them lately.
however... over familiar or not - Ig's voice is the shit. the dude puts SO much character into his vocals and it is a good track. I will now vote for "the passenger"

I love early Wire (this track is not necessarily a personal favorite), but...damn, "The Passenger" is really one of a kind. His voice, for one, but...the harmony on the scat part, the sound of the thing, and...just the uniqueness of the track.

Won't split them, although i have loved the Iggy for much longer. I have fallen for early Wire hard in the last 10 years or so and wonder why they didn't click with me earlier.

But for me it was Pink Flag and especially 'Three Girl Rhumba' and 'Ex Lion Tamer' that seemed to unlock the band to me, if that makes sense. I feel like i got them.
