What can you say ?
I kind of like the silly arse. Hard to tell how serious his condition is. My best friend in Greece was diagnosed with cancer on Friday. Fucking disease.

yeah, we're having somebody getting their second visit from the big C and they are of advanced years. They've made it clear that they are not about to go through the whole chemo/MRI ordeal again. this is practical but heartbreaking - you like to feel like you are doing everything you can.
I've always found him a pompous dork but I love everybody when I'm in a good mood and I try to stay in a good mood.Pompous Dork or not, I empathize.

Yeah, he's alright. As a person, as it goes.
You just know he's a two-faced fuck tho' - it goes with the job. All the hand-shaking and schmoozing, and then behind closed doors it's all 'what a FRIGHTFUL man!'

I was born a month before him. Never liked him, nor indeed any member of his family. I don't wish him any great ill, but nor would I miss a beat if he dropped dead tomorrow and Baldy Billy took the throne.

Whatever you think of him, he's better at the job than his son. HE is the dullest man ever to draw breath.

Nah, he's clearly a cunt. Remember him getting angry at a pen, or ordering a minion to clear shit away from a desk? And that was just while he was finally getting his dream job of doing fuck all in silly clothes.
King Billy will be exactly the same.

I'm fairly certain I didn't see a single one of you say "Long live the King" when he took over, so maybe some self-reflection is in order.

He came to our hospital to open a memorial garden for a couple of colleagues who’d died recently. He stuck around chatting to everyone for an hour or so. He didn’t have to. He did it with grace and some humility.
When you consider that many of our ‘heroes’ charge a couple of hundred for a meet and greet it puts things into some perspective.
I’m not exactly a royalist. I’m ambivalent.
But, yeah, I’m a bit of a fan.

To be honest, Fonz's story doesn't surprise me. As absurd as I find the monarchy to be, he does seem to be well intentioned and relatively down to earth, especially compared to previous generations.

Our Royals are, on the whole, decent people. That is why they seem to be liked by lots of people. If they were truly awful as some think, then I think we'd know. The proof is in what they do rather than what they seem to be.
My brother was quite effusive about Anne when he was awarded his MBE and he's an ardent Republican.

It's not them per se, it's the media's fawning attitude that sticks in my craw.
That style of reporting that assumes that we give a shit about these incredibly privileged people.
And then those loonies, ordinary people who love them. Like those obsessive Elvis or Jacko fans, but worse.

They report on it because people want to read the coverage. If the Royals did not generate sales, the Media wouldn't cover them- pure and simple.
The number of people who turn out for Coronations, Jubilees et al are indicative of the warmth many people in this country feel for the Royals. I don't think it is a case of people "fawning" over them either.
The symbolic power of the Royal Family is a peculiar one; it is as irrational as our love of popstars. There's a sense of them being elevated and us accepting it. Yes, it is very much smoke, mirrors and illusion, but some people like magic in their lives and this is one version of it.

The media, by which I mean largely in this case the tabloids and their online presence are scum. The kind of 'journalists' who hacked a dead schoolgirl's phone and hounded a troubled young TV presenter (Caroline Flack) to the point where she committed suicide.
So vast swathes of people buy into this nonsense, twas ever thus. It's bizarre, frankly. It's not that different from the brainwashing and worship of dictators that goes on in Communist countries.
This kind of thing is completely alien to me and almost everyone I associate with.
I can't fathom the notion that Charles is somehow a good guy. He's a pampered man child who has a lackey at his disposal to literally pick up his clothes when he chucks them on the floor and put toothpaste on his toothbrush for him. Who had a hissy fit when a pen didn't work. His brother is a massive nonce, and they all fucking know it. The comparison to our admiration of musicians doesn't stand up at all. The musicians and performers that we talk about on here have created great, inspiring work that serves a purpose and will continue to do so, in many cases, long after they're gone.
The royals are a bunch of entitled, inbred cunts. Fuck the lot of them.
