Kind of naff, but I used to love his afternoon shows in the 80s. Yeah, I'd listen to it then too. Partly because I always seemed to be killing time or in a state of mild boredom in the 80s..but still I liked the humour, which was a precursor, in many ways, to shows like The Fast Show with its zany characters like Mr Angry and Mick and Keith. It was a bit underrated in that respect.

He was often genuinely funny. A feel good show that was marmite to many. Daytime radio is a funny beast. He did it well.

He was very good at what he did. Obviously loved radio and must've spent hours putting all those clips together.
At the time that Reed, Bates and Wright were on, I worked in production and had no choice but to listen. I grew to hate the incessant chatter about nothing and the fact that music didn't feel that crucial to their shows.
I liked that he didn't throw his toys out the pram when he was moved from his afternoon slot. He spoke well about his time and that things change, nothing to moan about.

A friend who worked at the BBC said he was a genuinely strange man - he had a few anecdotes of his time there. Like Tim Westwood, a genuinely talented broadcaster who kept very high listening figures.

There can be no greater tribute than genuinely strange, like an alleged sex offender. Brings a tear to my eye.

Why is it odd? Tim Westwood, the son of a Bishop, ran the world's longest running HipHop show for over 30 years.
They were both very talented at broadcasting in their own way. The Steve Wright show was quite groundbreaking in the UK, just as Westwood's was too. The fact that they stayed at the top of their game for more than three decades is a testament to their ability.

I just don't think they had a lot in common other than running successful radio shows. It would be a bit like comparing Allan Carr with Jeremy Paxman simply on the basis that they both present TV!

S'pose. Jimmy Saville was a bit strange too.

In the last month, nine RIP threads for musicians: total 42 replies. One RIP thread for a no-talent fat fuck who didn't even like music, ten replies (not incluing this one) and counting. Sometimes I think Adam had a point.

Sometimes I think Adam had a point. It's the fault of the musicians for being so death hungry. They should space them out more to sustain interest.
