Due to a totally unforseen circumstance as a result of brexit. I am sad to announce that I will be returning to U.K shores. My wife can no longer work for her company ( based in the u.k) from Greece. Future pensions and income from her working are essential to our being able to live on our sunny, friendly island.
Ridiculously, she can still work remotely, as long as it is in the U.K. We will initially have to live with our son in Telford. I will go back to work and the 'upside' is that we can live anywhere in the U.k.
I have a brochure in front of me from Whitehaven Council. It seems idyllic, beautiful harbour with its strange coloured water, cinema, Morrissons and friendly locals. The world may not be an oyster, nor my future a clam.
Pissed off, barely covers it.

Sorry to hear this, Jimmy. They do seem to be making life difficult for people working abroad now - I can only work remotely when I'm in the UK.
HOWEVER - you may rediscover a love for the UK, despite its many problems.
My door is always open.

Sorry to hear that, Jimmy, I only voted for Brexit on the understanding you'd be kept away from the country forever. I feel duped now.
I would sell Wigan to you as a place to live, but it seems that Whitehaven has a cinema, so trumps us for culture. The town centre is currently being rebuilt though, so in a few years time we might have a few palm trees in plastic pots to look at.

I'm afraid so. It shut down a few months ago, part of the levelling up process, I think. We now all gather to play parlour games instead.

I hear the Inner Hebrides are quite Greek-like, and they even have their own version of ouzo. That might help to assuage the sting.

I'm really sorry to hear that Jimmy - what a fucking ballache.
I was somewhat jealous of your Aegean idyll - and it's frustrating that bureaucracy has prevented this. I presume it's something to do with tax residency? I have a friend who has had to return from Eastern Europe because there's some red tape about working somewhere for more than half the year when you work remotely.

It's all a little vague. There are "costs" involved that were not previously expected by her company. There are 12 other poor sods spread across Europe.
Here ,you need 3.5k a month to be a remote worker and golden visa requirements are going up.
It will feel strange returning. I have been back for 4 days in just over three years. I mean, for a little while i had a taste of another life. So many now will never have the experience. I could be bitter about things, what's the point in that. I am 61 now, time for one last adventure. My age may be problematic in seeking gameful employment, who knows? My friend who owns a small complex is going through cancer treatment and i was supposed to help run the place this summer. I could fly back and do that until October. To be honest i fear her illness may be too serious.
Life, its just life.
